what did he use for bait?

I've caught some pretty big fish once or twice in my life. But never anything like this. THAT'S a big fish for fresh water.

I shamelessly stole that link from here.

I actually heard about that on the local news here in Arizona and scoured the net for an hour trying to find an article about it so I could blog about it and have some proof. I found nothing.

That's one hell of a big fish. Too bad it aint gonna get eaten.

Swineherd picked this up this morning. We have a pretty good picture, too.

By the way, looks like the old fish kicked the bucket on the way to Cabela's. That's a shame...

damned big fish. that sumbitch was pry alive when mark twain was writting about huck finn catching a massive cat. impressive

Damn shame he didn't just take a picture and turn it loose. Now he can't add a few pounds every time he shows the picture.

A blue cat that big is not all that good to eat. They are tough and chewy-a lot like eating possum, the more you chew the bigger it gets. Now, a Blue cat under twenty pounds is one of the best of catfish eating. Better than a yellow flesh channal cat any day and equiv to a flathead cat.

Wow! That Catfish is bigger than I am!

I'll bet he was using one of the local nigger kids for bait. Catfish love dark, bloody meat. Once the bait was removed, the fish weighed 50 lbs. less.

GUYK is correct. A Cat that big is a tough old bastard and not very good to eat except in a stew. But catching one that big has to be a thrill.

I would love to hook one that big just to get dragged around the river for a few hours.

I used to know the man who once held the world record for Jewfish. They are giant grouper and he caught one under the old sunshine Skyway in Tampa that went over 600 pounds and dragged him and his boat all over Tampa Bay all night long before they finally got it in the boat.

Damn big-ass vacuum cleaner...

Almost e-mailed you this story yesterday. My grandpa who lived on the Illinois-Kentucky border used to tell us there were catfish down there so big you could stand on top their heads, and their eyes were big as your head. Maybe that wasn't just a fish story after all?

No, Jane... it wasn't a "fish story." I've seen channel cats in the Savannah River that LOOKED as big as that one. I never caught one, though.
