i am confused

I stumbled across this blog by accident. I've been trying to learn Spanish for about a year now, and I usually do pretty good reading it. Either this guy speaks a slang I never heard before, or that ain't Spanish as I know it. Some of the words are familiar, pero no comprendo mas.

Is that Portugese?

Hi,
Don't fret too much, cause that ain't Spanish, that's for sure. I'm a doc now, but in my previous life, I got my degree in Spanish from a fine Texas (Baptist) private institution (on the Brazos River), plus I've lived in northern and southern Mexico, where the 'indios' often have mixed (mestizo) dialects that could be confused, but that's probably portuguese or non-*spit*french romantic language. Put some text into a translator. It's Portugese...

I have a minor in Spanish and am taking Italian.

It's Portugese.

Definitely.

Yeah, it's Portugese. The names of the months in the archive section are the dead give away.

Portuguese, fer absolute sure.

Looks sorta like Spanish on the page, but that's where all similarity ends.

Useful to know - if you happen to be in Brazil, Portugal, or Macao.

Useless knowledge: the Japanese word "arigato" (thank you) comes from Portuguese ("obrigado.") But who really gives a shit?

Japanese for thank you is "domo" I think arigato is a modifier like 'very much' or 'a lot'.
