Gut Rumbles

November 28, 2005

I'm back

I was released from Willingway today. I look and feel a lot better than I did when I checked in. I've gained some weight, and my hair is cut short again. I also am sober at 10:30 PM on my first night out.

Would you believe that I am drinking bottled water? Well, I am.

I am tired and suffering a case of re-adjustment blues. I am going to bed early. I want to thank my guest-bloggers for stirring the fire while I was gone. I appreciate it, ladies.

And I appreciate each and every reader who hung around during my hiatus. I'm back and ready to rumble again. I just hope I can do this shit sober.

I've never tried that before.

Welcome back Mr. Smith. Things were getting a tad dull without you. No offense to the ladies.

Oh, welcome back! Now comes the tough part, though, but ODAT. You may have to repattern the blogging cells a bit but they'll come around, bigger and better than ever! I was singing "The Wreck of the Old 97" for you all weekend = ]

Posted by: Misty on November 29, 2005 05:45 AM

Welcome home, Rob! Glad you made it through. I'm one of those who promised to write but only got in a comment or two on the 'will print and send' posts; my new job is hell on my fingers. You were blogging right up till you went in, so I think that's a good sign for your continued ability to carry it on.
Bottled water, now that's a different story. Is it a 'health thing' or can you taste a difference now?
No offense to the ladies, who have kept us involved with irregular postings, but you're the blogger who got us coming here. If Snuffy Smith can quit his 'shinin' and keep his edge, you can too!
Now if you start liking cats, I've got an annoying one I can donate.....

Posted by: Stu on November 29, 2005 05:52 AM

Welcome home, Rob. You've got the guts to do this - it's just something that you need to do, and you've always been able to do what needed to be done. I'm proud of ya!

Posted by: hoosierboy on November 29, 2005 10:02 AM

Welcome back Rob. Glad you made it. When you feel the pain, welcome it, embrace it, it's growth. When you feel the urge, think of it as some idiot commentor on the blog, and treat it with equal disdain. Or not. All the best, and good luck.

Know that when it gets tough, that there are a lot of people here for you. Keep it up, and ignore the ingnorant and unuseful idiots like the one in the post below...

Note also my restraint in not sending anything cat related to you...

Good to have you back, Rob.

And you are the man who said bottled water and tap water were the same...Ooop's
Hope you are sill in good form with the humor, something has been missing from the site.
The dim-wits have became total obstructionist, totally negative about anything good in this country, and in some ( a lot) cases total traitors, all for politics. They are one sick bunch so start calling them on it. Hanoi John has joined the rank of insanity (he has been a proven traitor since 1971) with Algore.....Guess they have all let their hate turn to insanity faster than we hoped.

Posted by: scrapiron on November 29, 2005 03:39 PM

One day at a time!-glad you made it back. Stay strong and stay sober. I takes guts to admit it and real guts to do it in a public way-a great lesson for others making the same journey. Good luck!

Posted by: David Spence on November 29, 2005 03:50 PM

Welcome home! You can do it, big boy - breathe in, breathe out - just like all the rest of us. If deep breathing gets too tough, PANT! Hang in there.

I stopped lying to myself 4 years ago.( I don't need alcohol to function!) Never give up trying, it gets easier over TIME. Higher power and meetings! Cunning, Baffling, Powerful and Dangerous that's Alcohol. You are not alone my friend.

Posted by: Warthog on December 1, 2005 12:46 AM

Congrats man , great , you don't know me, i live far away (netherlands) stumpled upon this , just stopped by to wish you strength and willpower, happiness is a long way but main thing you are alive.
It was my lover , but now it is not even a friend anymore , Alcohol is a vicious rat ,life might be never the same as it was , but no real man has a boss above him right?
remember if you are out of this shit , you can beat the world, nothing is gonna take you down then, if you once have beaten the master , you are the master.
this all might make no sense, but aah it might help a tienieweenie.

Posted by: Hemaworstje on December 1, 2005 03:30 AM

Welcome back.

I salute your surviving the rehab and I am glad you did it. It took a family member of mine getting shot in a bar to convince him that he might have a problem. He has been clean and sober for 15-20yrs now, one day at a time. Lucky for him, stubborn runs in our family. You have a healthy dose of it too, you can do it.

Posted by: RickR on December 1, 2005 09:52 AM

You went through divorce on your blog.

You went through a nasty divorce on your blog.

You went through custody and legal hassles on your blog.

You went through cancer and implants on your blog.

You went through self-destruction, alcohol addiction, hiring prostitutes, and drug use, and nearly accomplished offing yourself in the process.

The man that can do that publicly can blog with sobriety.

Face it, if there was anything to be embarrassed about you've already done it, and it didn't change how much people love your blog, or the respect they have for you. So onward!
