pure greed

This kind of thinking is what put Louisiana where it is in the first place. Just grab all the money you can. Wanna talk about unmitigated gall?

The state's representatives have come up with a request for $250 billion in federal reconstruction funds for Louisiana alone -- more than $50,000 per person in the state. This money would come on top of payouts from businesses, national charities and insurers. And it would come on top of the $62.3 billion that Congress has already appropriated for emergency relief.

That's not "relief." It's "looting."

I feel like a complete asshole for donating $100 to the Salvation Army. I thought I was doing something to help needy people. I would have been better off spending that money on chicken livers to throw in the water to attract the bottom-feeders, which are out in force now.

Just damn! Louisiana is a fucked-up state, it's BEEN fucked up since the days of Huey Long and I don't have any more compassion for them. Wanna rebuild New Orleans? Then do it your fucking self.

Otherwise, move to another state. After this display of greed, I couldn't give a shit. $50,000 per person? Kinda makes those debit cards look cheap, doesn't it?

No... it makes Louisiana look like the cesspool it really is. I am ashamed that the state is in the South.

From the Washington Post article:

Louisiana's congressional delegation has requested $40 billion for Army Corps of Engineers projects in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, about 10 times the annual Corps budget for the entire nation, or 16 times the amount the Corps has said it would need to protect New Orleans from a Category 5 hurricane.

Who do these people think they are?

Just because the politicians are corrupt, greedy sons of bitches is no reason to regret the donation you made. At least that did go to help needy people. That money (which hopefully won't be approved) probably won't go so much to benefit Louisiana as to benefit the politicians.

The levees are the local and states jobs to take care of them. Instead of spending tax dollars on the things that are important, they just split the money up and make a damn good living stealing. If I have done that, I would be under the jail. The city always smelled like piss, everytime I ever been there, fuckem, MOVE.

There are only 500,000 people in the State of LA. So that $250 billion would provide more than $50,000 a person. Not only that, the entire state was not affected by this. I am sickened by this. I did not donate to any charity because I knew my tax dollars were going to be my donation.

Hell, for 50k, I'd let anybody blow my shit down and flood my street. I think it's a mix of "no bid" contract oppurtunities, along with the mix of, if you don't ask for it, you'll have no chance of gettin' it. I think it's damned near a negotiatiin' strategy to see just how much they can get go 'round. That's just my take though. I agree with the earlier commenter though Rob. I think you done good with that C-Note. You night not ever know the good you did, but I'm glad you did it, even if you ain't.

My cousin lived in Baton Rouge for about six years...when he came to visit us he was wearing a T-shirt that read:

Louisiana...it's not the heat...it's the stupidity.

He had the good sense to get out and now lives in DFW area.

I could now make up shirts that read:

Louisiana...it's not the stupidity...it's the corruption.

Yawn, more racism.

Which one of you ponied up for the stamp?!

$50,000???!!! what are they, out of their f*cking minds?
okay, here's the deal: i live in brooklyn, new york--we have some of the priciest real estate around (in some neighborhoods, a small studio rental could be up to $1300-1400!). even if, God forbid, the mother of all hurricanes were to wipe my apartment away--which i don't think is possible since all the [brick] homes on my block are attached--i still wouldn't need all that money because, quite frankly, none of the crap i own i don't think is really worth anything. where the heck to people get off asking for that kind of money anyways? what makes them think they're so entitled to it???

Posted by: even erica ain't worth that much on September 27, 2005 10:54 PM

isn't it enought o make you quit giving money to charity?

i like new orleans, but i say flood it and make it an american venice.

50k each? why? it's so ludicrous, i just about expect them to get it.

Racism? EXCUSE ME!!

The people that were left floatin' about the city after Katrina didn't have jobs, didn't have cars, didn't have anything to live on except welfare, and now they're gettin' new places to live for free, job offers they're not even qualified to apply for, and more of my tax dollars because they keep screaming, "It was Bush's fault! It was Bush's fault!" What a fucking country...

Wow, they managed to exceed the amount of federal money appropriated to NYC after 9/11 by... ten times.

Lovely.

One more point . . .

Since Rob freely (and properly) admits "states rights" died with Lincoln's tyranny, then it is no surprise that the levee failure came as a result of the Army Corps of Engineers--Federal, not "state," Sports Fans.

Merely a point of reference for truth's sake.

Feds control the states--even in "corrupt" Louisiana.

LMAO. Do you guys even get it yet?

Not even close. History keeps repeating to give you a clue, but you are adamant.

Damn J.B. , you were suppose to read the books in school not eat the damn things you fat ass moron.

Posted by: James Old Guy on September 28, 2005 06:37 AM

JB has no clue about state sovereignty. I suppose that he thinks that the Orleans Levee Board is a federal agency.

I'm from Plaquemines parish, bout 60 miles south of New Orleans. Yes grant it, it looks bad in New Orleans, mainly cause of the ignorant niggers that should've been mowed down when they declared martial law. Wanna see the real catastrophe? Come on down to where I'm from. You're bitching about the exceeded federal money appropriated as per 9/11? That's not just New Orleans, its also the outlaying parishes. Maybe because whole fucking parish's were displaced with nothing to come back to. That adds up to hundreds of thousands of people you fucking redneck morons, not two god damned buildings. Funny you should talk shit on 'preparedness' and you also mention 9/11. Yeah you know since it was car bombed once then destroyed from what's that you say? ANOTHER fucking terrorists attack. Yep, way to be prepared, guess the north can be just as ignorant as 'us here dumbasses in the dirty south, hyuck'.
