Gut Rumbles

July 24, 2005

Looks like they killed the wrong guy. Well, shit happens.

Let me give you people a good piece of advice. Don't EVER run from the cops, especially not nowdays, and especially when you are innocent of any crime. You're asking for trouble if you do that.

Police expressed regret for the death of the man at the Stockwell subway station, identified Saturday as Jean Charles de Menezes, 27. Witnesses said he was wearing a heavy, padded coat when plainclothes police chased him into a subway car, pinned him to the ground and shot him about five times in the head and torso.

If had stopped running, threw up his hands and surrendered, he might be alive today. But that's NOT what he did. Did the police over-react? Maybe so. But the dumbfuck brought that on himself.

I have no sympathy for him.

Maybe the guy didnt understand english (he was a Brazilian) and seeing as how the cops were in plainclothes, who knows what the poor bastard thought was going on. I blame the cops. Poor training. Incompetent fuckwits. And what kills me is they apparently wrestled him to the ground THEN shot him in the head five times.

Hope his family sues the bejesus out of the London police dept.

Posted by: Ruth on July 24, 2005 11:20 AM

Maybe we should send them the Chris Rock video, "How not to get your ass kicked by the police"

Posted by: og on July 24, 2005 11:21 AM

An innocent person is dead, shot in the head five times by some cops who shit in their pants. (It was probably the first time they were issued guns as most cops in the UK are unarmed) And as far as "blown out of proportion" goes.....they blew an unarmed, innocent mans brains out. It doesnt get any more outrageous than that (IMHO)

Wonder how many of us would react if a family member was shot dead by foolish police. I think its been blown out of proportion alright, but by the cops, not anyone else. They obviously need to go back to the academy. Correct that, they need to be dismissed. And if you are dark complected, Italian, Portugeuse, Spaniard, etc....stay out of the London tube lest you get your ass blown away by the Keystone Cops of Britain.

Posted by: Ruth on July 24, 2005 11:54 AM

Ruth, you have my vote.

But, police must look like police, in a uniform that tells us not to run from them when they say 'stop'!!

That poor guy probably didn't know WHO was after him! He was terrified, and ran. Makes sense to me - basic instincts.

Posted by: Bonita on July 24, 2005 12:03 PM

Wonder most of us would do if a buncha assholes with guns were chasing us thru a subway. Theres no proof these idiots identified themselves as cops (and my money says they didnt, as this guy had NO REASON to flee and put his his life at risk by doing so) I bet he had NO IDEA they were "law enforcement"

The guy was on his way to work, minding his own bloody business when he is set upon by these jerkoffs....and they pump five shots into his head after tackling him. Fucking nonsense.

Posted by: Ruth on July 24, 2005 12:10 PM

It is just the kind of hyper-reactivity that the terrorists hope we will fall into - that GOTSHA mentality, to get us afraid. Who's winning here?

Posted by: Bonita on July 24, 2005 12:15 PM

Actually, he ran from the cops and hopped the gates.

I think the brits are onto something. Probably more effective than what the NYPD is up to.

Posted by: Yogimus on July 24, 2005 12:18 PM

Yeah if he did in fact "hop the gate" he no doubt did so trying to get away from the thugs that were chasing him...duh...

The cops fucked up, and no matter how much you try, you cannot make chicken salad out of chicken shit. Gross incompetence on the cops part. And I cant get over the fact that they tackled him, then put five rounds in his head. What kind of nonsense is that?

Posted by: Ruth on July 24, 2005 12:22 PM

Holy shit.

I agree with jb.

I have to go cleanse myself.

Posted by: rightisright on July 24, 2005 12:26 PM

One of the things the police were shoutingwas 'armed police - stop', because they do identify themselves, by constant instruction and by LAW. This swarthy arabic looking asshole was bundled up in a coat in eighty degree weather, failed to stop at the command of police(who as I say identified themselves) and then jumped the ticket barriers to run onto a subway train where two weeks previously four shitheads looking remarkably like him murdered over fifty people.
Firearms officers undergo months of training before they are let out btw, we dont just hand a gun to the first blue suit we see.

Posted by: robert in england on July 24, 2005 12:44 PM

I don't like to see anyone killed, especially needlessly. But face the facts! If he had run, got away, and blew up himself and about fifty or more other people who would be getting the blame. The coppers of course for not shooting him when he ran away.

Law enforcement is between the rock and the proverbial hard place. We have a permissive society that feels that not obeying law enforcement agents is all right. This same permissiveness argues that taking a life in defense of property is a crime-that is until it is their property that get ripped off and then it is blame on the police force for failing to protect them.

One thing for damn sure, if a cop tells me to halt I am damn sure going to halt. If I was a cop and a suspicious character ran when I told him to stop I would shoot him and worry aboiut the consequences later. Better safe than sorry even if it means blowing away a man whose only crime was too damn stupid to halt when told to do so.

Posted by: GUYK on July 24, 2005 12:51 PM

Under the impression he had explosives strapped to him? I didnt read that anywhere....But the REALITY is, he had zero to do with the bombings, isnt Muslim, and was unarmed. And no amount of rationalizing is gonna change those facts. The cops shit in their pants and shot an unarmed man. (and Robert, give me a break with what the unarmed cops were supposedly saying) I am married to a cop and they dont go around saying "stop in the name of the law or I'll shoot". You have been watching too many reruns of Barney Fife.

Even my husband thinks these guys lost it, panicked, overreacted and now this poor bastard is dead. SHOT 5 times in the head while subdued, no less.

Posted by: Ruth on July 24, 2005 01:00 PM

Was just going to say pretty much along the same lines as Robert IE, Chablis, and GuyK said, but they beat me to it.

After being brought up in London I can honestly say that those Police officers did not over-react. We have to stop trains and get the bomb squads out every time some prat forgets their shopping in case it is yet another bomb, and this has been going on for f**king YEARS not just the last few weeks.

Posted by: Misty on July 24, 2005 01:03 PM

When you are married to a British cop, then you tell me what they do or dont do.

Posted by: robert in england on July 24, 2005 01:12 PM

What are the Keystone Cops of London gonna do this winter when everyone in the tube will be wearing a coat? Shoot every "swarthy" looking guy they come upon? You people are amazing.

And Robert and Misty, police work is the same the world over. Some cities have good cops, some have shitty ones, some have good and bad. But no matter where you go, police depts always have a handful who are shitty pants and afraid of their asses......and they over react (as these assholes did) They sat on this kid and shot him in the head five times. Thats what you call "good police work"? Maybe the UK better take the guns away from these goofballs and rethink their "arming the cops" policy. Your fellow subjects would be a lot safer it would seem. Five times in the head. Unarmed man. No connection to the bombings.....holy shit.

Posted by: Ruth on July 24, 2005 01:21 PM

Did the police over-react?

Not in the least. They had seconds to make a decision based on very little information. Take into account the tube bombings and they made the only responsible decision.

Dipshits like Ruth make me very sad.

We had an incident near me several years ago where a criminal killed several people, then ran into a house armed with a hunting rifle, began a standoff, then started shooting into the surrounding neighborhood from an upstairs window. As it was impossible to evacuate a highly developed 10 square mile area the decision was made ot take the guy out. It was done with one good shot to the head from about 75 yards. The moonbats, (That would be you, Ruth) Immediately began screaming about due process, Miranda, and a judge, jury, and executioner mentality.

Idiots. had any of the moonbats lived in the area they would have been screaming about why it took so damn long to take the fool out.

Posted by: Gerry N. on July 24, 2005 01:28 PM

The man who was shot came out of a house that had been under surveillence as it had connections to terrorist activities.
The police were concerned and notified SO18, who continued to tail him
The man was wearing a heavily padded jacket in 25c heat.
He went to enter the Station - SO18 clearly told him to Stop and halt, as they were armed.
The man ran off towards the train - remember how many people were killed on a tube train recently?, -grabbing a passenger who fortunately managed to get free.
SO18 again called for him to stop - he did not do so, instead he made to reach inside his jacket.
SO18 are trained to deal with terrorist situations. In a situation like that, they cannot just wound a suspect - the suspect can only take a split second to press a button or pull a detonator that will kill many other people.
Those Police officers risked their own lives in order to protect the public.
Sadly, yes, that suspect was innocent, but what if he hadn't been?

Posted by: Misty on July 24, 2005 01:33 PM

Idiots- you blithering idiots. (particularly ruth, other is a troll)

Recall that 50+ people have just been murdered in the London underground?
What sort of brain dead fool runs away from armed police when called on to stop?
You gibbering clowns that are bagging the English police probably have never pulled on a boot or a duty rig in your lives, never had to make a decision harder that what flavour doughnut you will scarf down this morning, and you have the hide to shitcan police officers doing their job?

I don't give a rats ass what part of the third world you come from, when loud and angry men are calling on you over the sights of guns, the dumbest shit-for-brains in the world is going to stop, show his hands, and surrender.

This fool, allegedly a well educated, English speaking repeat visitor to England, decided to run when called on to stop.
He, and he only, decided that his "rights" were about to be terminated.

Outstanding work from the copper involved. Next time some slug decides to plant a bomb and/or run he might think twice.

Mission accomplished.

Posted by: Henry Blowfly on July 24, 2005 01:41 PM

But, FIVE shots to the head? Wouldn't one have subdued him?

Posted by: Bonita on July 24, 2005 01:52 PM

The only thing Ruth didn't write was that this was all the fault of Chimpy McHaliburton-BusHitler and it was all about OILLLLLL and the JOOOOOOSSSS are behind it. Good Christ, woman. Call a 1-800-DIAL-A-CLUE and see if they have any specials.

1. It was the day after a failed bombing.
2. He resembled the reported profile of suspects.
3. He eluded the police.
4. He ignored a lawful order to comply.
5. He ignored police who identified themselves.
6. He was dressed more for Fargo than London.
7. He ran from the cops, which both pisses them off and unnecessarily escalates the situation.

They jumped him and he was successfully neutralized. End Of Story.

Morale of the Story - don't run from the cops, especially in London at this moment in history.

Posted by: Patrick on July 24, 2005 01:57 PM

Not a police dept in the world that advocates shooting an unarmed man (a subdued unarmed man)

And the Brit stiff upper lip is a thing of the past (that went out of style when Winston Churchill died) Now we have the Brit trembling lower lip, as they allowed the Muslim fanatics to invade their country, set up Mosques from which to encite terrorism, and wag their finger at Tony Blair, daring him to do something about it (and he has done ZERO to ebb the flow of Muslims coming into his country) NOW, we have the frightened London cops, blowing someone away for NO REASON at all....

Brit stiff upper lip? Dont make me laugh.

If Tony Blair and the rest of the UK wanted to show some machismo, start by deporting the IMAMS who stand on their London streets and advocate MURDER for the infidels....

Posted by: Ruth on July 24, 2005 02:03 PM

Ruth and jb - fancy a holiday over here? I'll pay for the tickets and throw in a backpack, padded jacket, white robes, copy of the koran and a travel card so you can ride the underground all day for you each?

Posted by: Misty on July 24, 2005 02:25 PM

OOoooohhh jb Spooky secret soldier.
Troll extrordanaire more likely.

Posted by: Henry Blowfly on July 24, 2005 02:35 PM

This is what the "stiff upper lip" crowd in London does 5 days after the 7/7 bombings:

They passed a religious "hate law" protecting Muslims. Somehow, I cant envision Churchill kowtowing to the NAZIS in a similar fashion. As I said, the ole stiff upper lip is now a trembling, pacifying, quivering LOWER LIP...

They are shit-for-brains, do nothing, appeasement wimps who invited these attacks by allowing huge numbers of radical Muslims into the UK.

No thanks on the offer Misty....a "holiday" in Muslim infected London is not my idea of a good time. Third World atmospheres dont appeal to me.

Posted by: Ruth on July 24, 2005 02:38 PM

Greed over oil?

JB, you probably know then, that Chevron had to rename it's oil tanker "The Condoleeza Rice" now goes by the name "Altair Yoyager".

Wonder why they changed the name...

Posted by: Bonita on July 24, 2005 02:47 PM

I dont recall typing that I "hated" Muslims.

I dont give a rats ass what god anyone worships or doesnt worship.

But I do care when a person (or people) advocate killing (and SMITING) non believers (infidels as they like to call us) in the name of Allah. That is fucked up, by most peoples standards.

Posted by: Ruth on July 24, 2005 03:38 PM

Well, holy shit!

However did you attract these grade-school morons? Sounds like a giant hissy-fit.
OK Maggots, here it is. The Fucker ran from the cops. The cops are looking for terrorists.
The poor sap looked like a terrorist.
They shot him dead.
End of fucking story.
Get the trauma team in. Bring closure to your angst. Put plastic flowers in your local subway in commemeration. Sign a book of remembrance.
Or, just fuck off!
I'm sick of these namby-pamby armchair quarterbacks that think they know it all.
Get a fuckin' life and thank whatever higher power you may believe in that you are still alive and have the liberty to speak your mind.

Hey jb....

check out up your own blog.

You can fart and belch, argue with your self all you want, and tell everyone how much you know and how experienced you are.

You'll still be 105% full of shit, and I won't have to scroll past 3/4 of the BS you spout off her to follow the comments on one of MY favorite blog sites.

Posted by: Virgil on July 24, 2005 06:35 PM

If I had my own site, which I do, but I avoid the politics of idiots and the idiocy of politicians

The idiocy you just typed would still be idiocy

Self-absorption (idios in the Greek)

Caught up in ones self

Without perspective

Uh, just plain dumb as a fucking post

Take your pick--they all apply to you so far, but

Prove me wrong and make me :-)

If you would like to prove yourself right and able to think cogently and concisely on the matter, and prove me wrong--well then--hey!--e-mail me and I will be more than happy to discuss this intelligently with you. Rob ain't got time to discuss the shit he raises--he is too "im-po-tent" having to be in charge of a big ass website and all--so you can handle his light work and argue FACTS with me.

Could be fun!

Posted by: jb on July 24, 2005 07:49 PM

Acidman, I'm inclined to agree with you. The police identified themselves and he still ran. That was a choice he had to make, just as the police had to do a quick risk assesment. He could have been a suicide bomber. He showed all the right symptoms. What would you reasonably expect them to do? And don't give the bs of shoot to disable. You only need one hand free to trigger a bomb.

Leftocrat - my word of the week on Friday is what I'd used to describe JB.

So, JB:

(a) Where is your email address? You haven't posted it so despite your boasts nobody has a way to reach you.

(b) Secondly - "If I had my own site, which I do, but I avoid the politics of idiots and the idiocy of politicians". Why do you bring that shit onto somebody else's site then?

You know how it works. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read and revisit this site. Go to or go watch Teletubbies or something.

good job rob you caught ruth with one of
her pms days post something else to
get her riled up before her next full moon

Posted by: john on July 24, 2005 08:24 PM

I'm trying to follow Acidman's rules by not turning his comments section into an E-mail dialogue, but I have to answer JB's last comment directed to me.

JB, I and anyone else here in tACIDMAN'S comments section that has a hyperlink as a comment signature will welcome moving any private discussion you wish to have to our own blogs so we don't waste ACIDMAN's bandwidth.

You, however, like all liberals who always reduce everything to insults and name-calling, choose to invite me to e-mail you but you choose to post virtually anomyously with no hyperlink to your imaginary blog that you claim to write.

Thus the name Troll...hiding under an internet bridge hollering insults to innocent bystanders...

In my opinion, one can never have too many trolls....but then again--do we have a choice?

Posted by: Virgil on July 24, 2005 09:48 PM

Yo, Mr. Brain-dead - I have only posted that for 7 years or so . . .

I have always posted my e-mail, I am published online, and I have never hid who I am, if you had done a fourth grader's bit of online checking.

Do not think I shy away from arguments--if you know anything about me, that is the very least of my concerns . . . but then you haven't been around very long or you would know me.

And you, I worry about least of all--and given the idiocy written the last two days, that is saying much!l But bring it on anyway, and I will happily copy all to Gut and to a few other sites for their amusement.

Ruth, meet jb. jb, meet Ruth,
Get married and run away to la-la land where you can tell each other wonderful stories all day long about the evil people who try to keep innocent misunterstood folks down, like terrorists. Just find a few "insurgents", pat them on the head and say beautiful things to them, and they'll spread the word. No more bombings. The police then will exchange their guns for fat joints, and make love, not protection.
I hope you don't go on the wrong subway car someday, or the wrong airplane. What a 3-millisecond surprise it would be to find out you're asshats.

Posted by: Horrabin on July 24, 2005 11:36 PM

Hey JB, having only blogged for 11 months, why is it that when I google my name "Virgil Rogers" I come up #1, but when I google "JB" I get an Australian sterio sales site, a Brazilian "Jornal" site, the official "The journal of bacteriology" site, but no blogger called "JB"

Are you possibly an Australian bacteria living in Brazil, or are you just fameous in your own mind?

The web ego is truly an interesting thing--I guess you've got way more hits than ACIDMAN's 2 million, huh?

Gee, since you are so interested in telling us your views, and since I am so interested in telling you mine, why don't you post a link to your blog in the comments like I have so all of us that have enjoyed (or endured) your intellect and wit can stop by and comment on your site?

Can you say "denial of service error..."

P.S. ACIDMAN, I promise this is my last word to JB on your site, and I bet he won't risk telling us his blog URL, if he even really has one.

Posted by: Virgil on July 24, 2005 11:42 PM

I will even color you "well done" Virg too.
