i wanna believe it

I received this email from Wes Jackson, a frequent commenter on my blog. I didn't run it through SNOPES to check its veracity, because I would prefer to believe that it's true.

Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troups at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers that have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the States, especially burn victims. They have buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base but as you can imagine, they are almost completely filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.

The question I have is why does Alec Baldwin, Modonna, Sean Penn and other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything America crap and this doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper

except the base newspaper in San Antonio.

Wes, the answer is simple. Very FEW celebrities are willing to put their money where their mouth is to begin with (notice how many DIDN'T leave the country the way they threatened to when Bush was reelected-- in fact, name ONE who did) and they really don't give a shit about anybody but themselves. Like catfish, they live in shallow water, open their mouths a lot and eat shit most of the time.

Fuck 'em. And if the story is true, Denzel Washington just went up a few notches in MY book.

I saw this at Blackfive a week or so ago. He said it was all true except for the checkbook part, he did donate enough money to build a new one though. Denzel Washington definately jumped a few points in my book too.

I verified at Snopes... He did make a *substantial contribution* and someone from the foundation said it was *one of the largest ever* but he didn't whip out the checkbook as the previous commenter pointed out... I have always like Denzel.. He is tooo cute for words and I have a strange connection to him...

His wife, Paula, is from my hometown of Newton NC... She went to the same high school I did and several years ago she came back to the area to do a one-woman show kinda thing for charity.. Sadly, Denzel didn't come too... But... I was, at the time, in high school and very involved with my local community theater and the Artistic Director knew her and we got to stay after the show and meet her and talk with her... She was EXTREMELY nice and down to earth...

Have also met Andie McDowell, her dad and step family went to our church when I was growing up...

That is the two famous people I have met story... LOL

Ok.. All done now... :)

Rob - Alli is absolutely correct. DW went up in my estimation as well. Don't look for this story in the lamestream media. They would rather cover Sean (spit) Penn. All the best, Terry

The man has my appreciation as well. MSM would do well to make this public. Something about role models, you know?

I believe Johnny Depp put his money where his mouth is and moved overseas.

Posted by: Bane on June 11, 2005 09:04 PM

But Johnny Depp sure does come back to the US to shoot US movies for that US money. Must not be that bad!

I've always liked Denzel. Good for him.

That is one of those bullshit right-wing rumors created to stir support among the idiot Republican base when the President's approval rating is the lowest ever. NO ONE, including Hollywood left-leaning critics of the Iraq war, blames the troops for the fucking mess we're in now. Virtually everyone in America is proud and tremendously supportive of the fantastic, yet thankless job our brave troops are doing under extraordinary circumstances. It is the FUCKED-UP civilian leadership in power today that should be held accountable for sending our good men there for reasons that were secretly intended to serve oil industry and corporate interests. Pure and simple.

PJ, does Michael Moore's cock taste like old eggs or rancid peanut butter?

I ask only because it looks like you've been swallowing an awful lot of what he spews...

Posted by: JimK on June 12, 2005 05:12 AM

PJ is proving a troll. PJ spewed lies on this thread and when I provided evidence of PJ's lie PJ is nowhere to be found.

Truth, reason and logic are foreign concepts to PJ. PJ is a propagandist (fucking liar). If PJ can't refute you PJ resorts to name calling or runs away. Same thing when you prove PJ wrong.

I don't know what color the sun is on PJ's planet but I think it's brown due to cranial analitis.

This story was true several months ago. He visited, made a donation to Fisher House, and pinned on a couple of Purple Hearts.

It was in the Army Times, Stars and Stripes, and other military publications. A celebrity visiting a hospital is not national news. When I worked thier we had several come by and you didn't read about those either. Stop falling over your ass, trying to find shit to be "outraged" about. It's pathetic.

That is ironic that I am so fucked up because just today the new gallup poll shows Bush's approval rating at a new low of 43%. Is 57% of the nation fucked up too? Bush is the only one selling snake oil and you are one of the FEW buying it ya wing nut idiot. I answered your old thread Stinkbait, how did you prove me wrong?

"This story was true several months ago. He visited, made a donation to Fisher House, and pinned on a couple of Purple Hearts."

Since when do Hollywood actors pin Purple Hearts on wounded U.S. soldiers?

If the Republicans support our soldiers so much, then why did the GOP controlled Congress vote overwhelmingly not to extend health benefits to veterans recently? And THAT is not pathetic?

Posted by: PJ on June 13, 2005 03:34 AM

PJ, the only popularity contest that matters was held on a Tuesday last November. I should also point out that 50% of the people in this country sport below average intelligence and usually vote for Democrats.

Posted by: Ed on June 13, 2005 02:09 PM

ED, you might want to be looking to the future since only 31% of Americans think this sorry ass Republican controlled Congress is doing ANYTHING. Democrats are gonna gain a bunch of seats in the House in 2006 and all they need is 7 more in the Senate to get back in power and straighten this fucked up mess out like they have always done since 1929 when the last Republican controlled Congress and Presidency drove America into the ground. We are dangerously close to repeating history all over again.

Posted by: PJ on June 14, 2005 02:54 AM

If you seriously think the Dems can pick up 7 seats then I wan't some of what you've been smoking. With Dean at the helm, the dimocrap party is sinking like the Titanic. Good riddance! If the dems go away we can concentrate on fixing majority party.

Posted by: Ed on June 14, 2005 10:21 AM

Yeah, it will be IMPOSSIBLE to win any seats based on THOSE approval ratings. What was I thinking? Ummmm........could it be that of over half the country?

Posted by: PJ on June 15, 2005 03:52 AM

Awww, how cute! Little PJ is desperately grabbing for any straw he can use to prop up his pet theories! Hey dipshit - Bush can't get re-elected any more, because this is his second term! So all your blather about his approval rating doesn't mean jack shit.

And of course, I'm sure you would just LOVE to show us all where your numbers came from? Probably not, because once you reveal the source for your mysterious poll, it'll get ripped to shreds and pissed on, much like the treatment you recieve every time you poke your head up.

Buh bye, troll.

Posted by: Raging Dave on June 15, 2005 05:48 PM

I tend to forget some of you wingnut idiot fucktards like RAGINGDAVE can't read. I stated the GALLUP POLL as the fucking source you moron. Maybe you have heard of it before. By the way, you sound real educated when you state that since Bush can't get re-elected again, all my blather about approval ratings doesn't mean jack shit. I can see you really understand politics you complete waste of a cum spurt.

Posted by: PJ on June 16, 2005 12:08 AM

Sorry, I can't let that go. How can you possibly compare celebrity scum with catfish? There isn't anything wrong with catfish.

I revealed my source and poked my head up again RAGINGDAVE............just waiting to get it ripped to shreds and pissed on. Of course, please feel free to point me to ANY other source YOU know of. I would love to see where George W. Bush's numbers are above anything but those representing complete failure on every fucking issue. Just like I thought....you can't. So keep your stupid ass mouth shut next time fuckface.
