shit happens

I hate to read this, because I know how it feels when that rabbit comes out of the hat. Here for 24 years one day, and gone the next.

I know that kind of stuff is part of running a modern corporation. But what chaps my ass is the way the company preaches "teamwork" and "Corporate Family" right up to the point it decides to drop you like a hot rock.

You ain't nothing but a clock number, a salary paycheck and a "human resource." I knew that fact all along, but I resented my company not having the balls to say it themselves. Corporate family, my ass. I know a fucking sunshine pump when I see one.

And I never wanted to be part of that kind of "family."

Heh. "Human resource" my pasty-white kiester...

Last company I worked for, you didn't even rate that high. The preferred name for all the wage slaves was "headcount". As in, "we need to drop 10% of our headcount by next week to meet quarterly projections."

Never mind that these were people with families and mortgages. Never mind that the customers got screwed by having fewer techs to handle their issues. Never mind that training costs spiraled out of control when the firm rushed to re-staff ("augment headcount") when the client demanded better coverage. It was all about meeting those pie-in-the-sky projections set by some bean-counting turd far far away with no grip on local realities.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about capitalism. It just seems to me that if you can have a private company (not publicly traded, so no stockholder issues) with a motivated staff performing quality work for satisfied customers while easily making a 22% net profit margin, turning the company into a sweatshop (with a 110% annual 'headcount" turnover rate) also with annoyed clients and pissed off end-users in pursuit of a 34% margin just strikes me as irresponsibly greedy.

I like $$$ just as much as the next guy, but screwing your staff, client and customers to get a higher bonus is just fucking wrong.

Best thing to teach your kids:

Get some experience in your field then open your OWN business.

Fuck the corporate world.

I can't tell you how many inner chuckles I have when some of my corporate employed friends tell tales of political backstabbing and wrong-doings.

"Human resource Action and Skill Rebalancing"...Doesn't that just peg the ol' bullshit meter? And to think that there are people who think, write, and talk like that, and they have the lives and careers of real and better people in their hands.
