i don't like this shit

frances2-thumb.jpg

Frances is a legitimate bad-ass and he's going to hit somewhere on the southeast coast. It's gonna be ugly. The current track puts Frances to the south of me, but I AM THE ONE who says those storms always turn north when they hit the gulf stream.

I hope that I am wrong this time.

(But you've got to admit one thing: That sumbitch is a BEAUTIFUL STORM. Mother Nature is a real artist sometimes.)

Comments

Beautiful.

Shitty timing, but beautiful.

Frances is a SHE not a HE. (Francis would be a HE) So yes, fear Frances, as shes no doubt hormonal and doesnt just want ONE guys house, but THOUSANDS..

Posted by: Ruth on September 2, 2004 11:07 AM

Ruth, are you saying Frances is a BC, writ large?

Posted by: McGehee on September 2, 2004 11:09 AM

For lack of a better term, YES she is a BC, and not only a BC, but a BC on wheels.....very fast wheels at that....and taking names and kickin' ass....and I have a certain someone in Florida who if FRANCES dumped HIM into the GULF, I would be utterly ECSTATIC....(enough said)

Posted by: Ruth on September 2, 2004 11:31 AM

I don't think y'all have to worry this time. There's a big ridge of high pressure in the Atlantic that's almost touching Florida, and that's gonna keep Frances traveling more to the west until she gets well into/passes over Florida.

Posted by: Amy on September 2, 2004 11:40 AM

Yeah, Ruth, add my ex- to that list ... that would be a very sweet form of poetic justice, and I would not shed a tear over it

Posted by: maggot on September 2, 2004 11:41 AM

Shed a tear? Are you kidding? I would dance on his fucking grave.

Posted by: Ruth on September 2, 2004 11:47 AM

Not sure but I think Ruth has some issues with an ex.

Posted by: James Old Guy on September 2, 2004 12:00 PM

Ya think?

Posted by: Ruth on September 2, 2004 12:02 PM

Just a wild guess, glad your not my ex, she justs wants all my money.

Posted by: James Old Guy on September 2, 2004 12:27 PM

Wasnt money I was after....

I wanted something he was incapable of giving.

BUT it wasnt money, I assure you, as I have that (enough anyway)

Posted by: Ruth on September 2, 2004 12:29 PM

It looks like a giant white asshole to me.

Posted by: phil on September 2, 2004 12:42 PM

interesting

Posted by: dzwonki on September 2, 2004 12:48 PM

LMAO@Phil.....aye, it does indeed look like a giant white arsehole, matter of fact, I think I might know who it is.....

Posted by: Ruth on September 2, 2004 01:04 PM

Based on Phil's observation, I hereby rename this storm Hurricane Michael Moore.

Posted by: tybee mike on September 2, 2004 01:41 PM

I think that eye (brown eye) is starting to turn a little north (NW), or should I say white eye?

Posted by: Phil on September 2, 2004 01:56 PM

I have a certain someone in Florida who if FRANCES dumped HIM into the GULF, I would be utterly ECSTATIC....(enough said)

Wouldn't that be kind of a damp dance?

Mother Nature is a silly concept invented by pagans.

God is the artist, and it looks like someone's getting a smiting.

Posted by: GE on September 2, 2004 02:55 PM

Just saw the latest update. Looks like you're in for a doozy on Sunday night/Monday, Rob even though you probably won't see the eye. But she is a lovely storm. Reminds me of Fran and Floyd because of the tight eye....

Posted by: caltechgirl on September 2, 2004 03:56 PM

Ever wonder if maybe there's just something about Florida that PISSES GOD OFF?

Posted by: Ruth on September 2, 2004 04:30 PM

Don't forget "hurricane magnet NC" or my former home, earthquake central CA

Back to the beauty aspect (shaking off the Moore comment...ugh!), did y'all see the image they took at sunrise this morning? Damn beautiful and frightening, moreso even than this image. I linked to it HERE. Click the image for the full size version from NOAA.

Posted by: Desert Cat on September 2, 2004 05:25 PM

It is a thing of beauty....and God help all the folks when she makes landfall. I have a funny fealing this one is going into the gulf (crossing Fla)....and either New Orleans or the coast of Tx is next.....have no basis for this other than the ever popular gut feeling.

Posted by: Guy S. on September 2, 2004 05:29 PM

Us'ns in New Orleans hope you're wrong, Guy.

Posted by: Steve Teeter on September 2, 2004 05:54 PM

So do I Steve...so do I As I said tis just a feeling.

Posted by: Guy S. on September 2, 2004 06:47 PM

I live in orlando and I know I am going to get it bad. 145 mph winds bring it on frances!

Posted by: norma on September 2, 2004 06:56 PM

Hope your theory of NC being a hurricane magnet is correct, because right now she's headed right for me. Just spent the last 12 hours putting up storm shutters.

Posted by: Catfish on September 2, 2004 10:46 PM

Norma,

I was just in Orlando last week, and my views of the damage were impressive.

My folks (in College Park) are battened down for the duration, again.

My prayers are with them, and with you.

I live in Orlando and I don't challenge frances to 'bring it on'. charley's eye went right thru our neighborhood... and there's no way i thump my chest and dare frances to do the same.

Posted by: Rick on September 3, 2004 04:11 AM

It appears we need to start a list of people we would "Most Like To See Swept Away By God's Fury" when Frances comes calling. I'll nominate my ex- and her adulterous, under-achieving new husband.

Posted by: maggot on September 3, 2004 08:37 AM

I nominate Michael Moore, although I'm not certain that even 145 mph winds could lift his ass.

Posted by: jmflynny on September 3, 2004 11:50 AM

145 mph winds probably couldn't lift his ass, but that much fat would make him bob on top of the storm surge like so much Crisco. It would look like the big white ball skimming across the bay on "The Prisoner" back in the 60's.

Damn, I loved that show as a kid. "Secret Agent Man", taken to it's eccentric, sci-fi conclusion as only the Brits could do it.

Posted by: Mamamontezz on September 4, 2004 02:24 PM

"Frances is a SHE not a HE. (Francis would be a HE) So yes, fear Frances, as shes no doubt hormonal and doesnt just want ONE guys house, but THOUSANDS.." As spoke Ruth...

I wonder, is she hyperventilating and suffering a case of the vapors?

*smirk*

Posted by: Mamamontezz on September 4, 2004 02:26 PM

It's not a beautiful storm. It's got Uncle Sam sending me like a bat outta hell to Goodfellow AFB. No plywood over the windows for my home, I get to set up an alternate ops center for a (formerly) beachside Air Force unit. Now my wife's scared shitless and pissed at me while she's hiding out at Maxwell AFB with the three dogs, and I'm watching the Weather Channel as they show dumb-ass reporters taking anemometer readings of 100mph about 2 miles south of my house in Satellite Beach, FL. Oh, and that house, which I may not get to occupy again for quite some time, is all of about 150 yards from the ocean, on the barrier island. Merry fucking Christmas!

Well, at least the Shiner Bock's going down smooth. Frances turning north towards the Carolinas? Yeah, sure...
