government action is needed

If only chicago had its way, this terrible tragedy never would have happened. NOBODY would weigh 480 pounds on a 4' 10" frame and graft herself to a couch by lying there for years if not for soft drinks in public schools. What utter horseshit.

I'll admit that obesity is a problem in America today. A LOT of people in this country are FAT, because they eat too much and don't exercise. They are raising fat little kids who cram their faces full of junk and play video games all day instead of running and jumping and climbing and fighting the way normal kids do.

That IS NOT the fault of the fast-food industry or soft drink manufacturers. It is the fault of PARENTS. Banning junk-food in public schools isn't going to solve the problem. It's just going to give the government another excuse to pass more regulation and take away more of MY freedom, and I AM SKINNY. I need to GAIN about 20 pounds to fill my body out the way it should be.

But in these days of professional victimhood, nobody is responsible for what they shove down their necks. Somebody ELSE made them fat, and government should step in to protect them from that terrible menace. If fat people and lawyers can make a little money from the deal, money that fat people will spend on more shit to cram down their necks, then justice is done.

That's one thing I noticed on my trip across America. At every motel or hotel where I stayed, I saw fat parents with fat kids. I didn't see lean parents with fat kids. I didn't see fat parents with lean kids. I saw a pattern of behavior.

Quinton and Jack are nothing but muscle and bone, and they are "hoooongry" all the time. They eat like bush-hogs, but they NEVER stay still unless they are asleep. Those two boys NEED all of that fuel to fire the engines they run on, and I do mean RUN. Those two turds make me tired just watching them. They can wear this old fart down in about an hour when we play football or shoot hoops.

My advice to parents: if you have a fat kid, GET HIS ASS OFF THE COUCH. If you are fat, get YOUR ass off the couch. Goddam. This "problem" is not that complicated. We don't need government intervention to solve it. And government intervention WON'T solve it, either, but government is ALWAYS looking for something else to regulate. It sees a golden opportunity with obesity and the regulatory wheels are already beginning to turn.

Smokers are not the villians they are perceived to be in this country. Fat people are the real threat.

Damn straight! If the government is so intent on doing something to fight obesity then they should be funding research into an over-the-counter diet pill that actually works! The market is there, just look at viagra.

I've seen parents give their 3 year-old kids a 20-oz. bottle of Pepsi to drink.

Try people-watching at the Wal-mart in North Windham, Maine. Fat kids with fat parents as far as the eye can see.

Ah yes, this also partially ties in with your post on criminals.

If the parks were safe, I think more kids would go. I also think we need to re institute a rigorous PE program back in the schools. They've cut down on alot of that. Kids could eat like crap if they were exercising it off. Would take alot of angst out of the school too if people were more thin; not so much harrassment because they're chunky.

It pisses me off that medicare has made obesity a 'disease' so even MORE of our smegging tax dollars can go towards fools who suddenly want to go on a diet at our expense, who NEVER LIFTED A FINGER TO WORK IN THEIR LIVES!!!

By the by, I'm in Arizona; ticks me off that it is pink. Despise pink. Despise liberals and whiny moonbats.

Acidman says, "My advice to parents: if you have a fat kid, GET HIS ASS OFF THE COUCH"

What if it's grafted to the couch?

What if it's grafted to the couch?

A parent who would let that happen has a whole order of magnitude more of a problem than the kid.

You are an idiot......if there were healthier meals available in schools this would not be a problem. You are older and things have changed. Schools are not serving the same healthy meals they did when you were young. Much of the funding set aside for school lunches has been cut and subsidized by vending machine companies and fast food funds. You say, "I AM SKINNY". Well, good for you. You have obviously never had a wieght problem and could never understand how much of a struggle it is to maintain a good wieght. You are a fucker and should keep your prejudiced, ignorant, redneck mouth shut!!! Fuck you very much!!!

I think you are right on the money when it comes to this subject. If someone is obsese he or she should take action and change their lifestyle. The government has no right to mandate what anyone should eat! I am going to be 18 in a month which means I can be a registered voter but I can't decide what the fuck I want for lunch. Give me a break, if you want to boss your own kids around that's find but that doesn't give you the right to intervine in any one elses life!
