some things never change
I watched the movie Blackhawk Down! for about the fourth time today. I also read the book twice. Let's stop and think for a minute about what happened in Somalia.
We went in there with a multi-lateral bunch of United Nations "allies" who didn't do shit to help when we needed them. We also sent our troops into harm's way without the armor they needed for street fighting, because Bill Clinton didn't want to offend our "allies." Too much force displayed on the streets might piss somebody off.
As a result, 19 Americans died; then, we cut and ran like whipped dogs, even though our troops inflicted tremendous casualties on the Somali "insurgents."
Doesn't that remind you of some of the philosophy coming from the left-leaning, anti-war crowd today? Don't fight a war if we might piss off a country that doesn't make a pimple on a rat's ass. If we DO fight a war, let's not fight too hard, because we might piss off the country we're fighting against, or we might anger the French. Also, let's cut and run at the first opportunity, because war is a bad thing.
Thank Bejus these people weren't in charge during World War II. We'd all be goose-stepping and speaking either German or Japanese now.
Cut and run we did.
The object in war is to defeat (destroy) the enemy. Right?
My best friend and ex team member was there. He's STILL bitter about it.
I caught a review that pointed out there were no scenes of somali cowards using women and children as bullet shields in the movie, thought that happened.
The same cowardly tactic is being used by iraqi insurgents today.
Send in the nukes. Fucking animals.
I guess telling the truth about what happened would offend liberals, The truth always hurts them the most.
Mark Bowden also wrote a book entitled "Killing Pablo." It explains how the US and the Columbians hunted down and exterminated Pablo Escobar (the Columbian drug lord) -- an outstanding read!
The movie did a good job of showing the kind of shit our troops ran into that day. The bravery, heroism and valor displayed under VERY adverse conditions says a lot about our boys.
That movie makes me proud to be an American, but it also makes me ashamed of the government we had back then.
The things Clintonavich did while in office stank, but on my list the way he treated the military make me wish I could spit in his eye, then hope he tried to do someting about it.
Clinton and his boys were definetly bad, acted poorly on this one. But I always fail to understand why the Right gives such an easy pass to the Gip--Remember 23 Oct 1983, truck bomber deystroys the US Marine Barracks killing 241 (oh about 10 times the number killed in Somalia) this was almost exactly 6 months after the same group had used the same tactic on the US embassy (18 April 1983) What did we do, bomb terrorist camps? Bomb Iran? (the known backers of the group) er no we tucked tail and ran. But remember the Gip was a great president and great man.
I hate to say it, but the Gip fucked that one up. I would have turned Lebanon into a Wal-Mart parking lot after that attack.
