one thing i didn't do

I promised my blog-buddy jim that I would buy him a box of Cuban cigars while I was in Costa Rica. I didn't do it.

The tobacco-shop owner wanted $620 AMERICAN for a box of those Havana smokes Jim wanted, and we arrived on that price only after some serious haggling. I was worried about purchasing counterfeits and the problems with getting those things through customs, so I didn't buy them.

Sorry, Jim. Maybe next time.

He must have thought that you were some gullible tourist?

Anyway, I'm glad that mangoe didn't scramble your brains bad enough to pay that kind of highway robbery on 'em.

That said, Castro just cannot die soon enough!

You can get pre-embargo Cubans at about 3 for $100 at redenvelope.com. Gave'em to my brother-in-law for Xmas one year.

I pay $100 a box for Cohibas. I live in Key West and know a lot of Cubans, They can visit the island and also bring back cigars for "personal consumption", so when I know someone is going I give them a couple of hundred bucks and have them get me a couple of boxes.
When I went to Indiana last year I went to a smoke shop that sells Cubans (not legally of course) and the guy was asking $60 for one stogie, a Cohiba, the same thing I pay $100 a box for, and Cohibas are OK but not GREAT Cuban cigars, just average.

Couldn't agree with you more, Jim. Oz trades with the regime and one can pick up a box of Cohibas duty-free for about USD 200. I feel guilty when doing that, however, for supporting the old prick. I find that many Hondurans are just as good these days, especially without that political rot on them. I surprisingly had a really good ceegar made in Key West when I was in FL earlier this year. I believe it as a "Conch Republic" brand, but don't exactly recall.

Yep. Conch Republic brand. They make them here, have been for about 70 years I think. They`re pretty good and of course made by Cubans. Right now I`m kinda fond of Macanudos and Fuentes.
