September 30, 2003hey, trolls!Since none of you seem to have a clue about why I consider you to be trolls, go read this. THAT'S how you disagree with someone on a blog. I responded in the comments. I don't really disagree with his central point (The Partiot Act is a dumbass piece of legislation passed by politicians in a panic to "do SOMETHING... DO ANYTHING" after 9/11. Most of the shitheads who voted for it didn't have a clue what was in the bill. Don't get angry at John Ashcroft about that. Get pissed at YOUR Senator who voted for it without reading it.) What I DON'T like is the wolf-crying idiots out there who try to paint Ashcroft as Stalin. Hey, boys and girls. If he wanted to act like Stalin, he COULD with the powers YOUR SENATORS GAVE HIM. But he hasn't. Bejus. Stop with the fake heart attacks and the "I'm comin' to join ya, Elizabeth!" Fred Sanford rhetoric. I don't give a damn if you think Ashcroft is evil incarnate. He's yet to burn and kill anyone. Just imagine Janet Reno with a Patriot Act. Comments
The Patriot Act isn't what concerns me - that was BOUND to happen sooner or later, and it's not like the GOV. couldn't already fry our asses six ways from Sunday if they had a mind to. It's Ashcroft's mindset that equates bringing a bottle of Valium back from Mexico with smuggling 2 tons of Opium into Baltimore Harbor that burns my ass. Just more War on Drugs waste, fraud & abuse. You're damned tootin' on the Janet Reno with a Patriot Act thing...I'm probably gonna have nightmares about that one. Posted by: Donnie on September 30, 2003 04:13 PMHehe, and congrats on the Instalanche, Pappy... - D Posted by: Donnie on September 30, 2003 04:34 PMrob, yeah the patriot act is a bad idea...and contrary to the left, ashcroft hasn't used the powers (yet)...but like you said, imagine janet reno with it...imagine nixon with it....therein is the major problem with the act...maybe the guys now aren't doing anything with it...but I'd hate to imagine a hillary clinton appointed AG with that power. "Never give your friends powers you would not give an enemy." That's PRECISELY the problem I have with the Patriot Act. Ashcroft may not be abusing those powers (blatantly), but some future Janet Reno could run wild. Legally. Posted by: Kevin Baker on September 30, 2003 06:09 PMActually, I'm also tired of the knee-jerk reactions of people who make comments so extreme that they are discounted, even if the fundamental point is sound. Those comments (and the people who make them) are actually damaging to the cause they are trying to promote. Ashcroft makes such a fine target, though, with his arrogant attitude. It's hard to not exaggerate in the manner of Mark Twain or Will Rogers when an opportunity arises to poke holes in someone in power who has Ashcroft's manner. Posted by: Jack on September 30, 2003 06:13 PMMy point remains. The people going nuts now over nothing will DEFEAT any outcry over true abuses later. Goddam. Don't ever whine about being shot at until somebody actually shoots at you. Posted by: Acidman on September 30, 2003 06:24 PMBah. Why is it everyone in the tin foil hat crowd screams and whines about the Patriot Act, when all it does is expand powers that have existed in the FISA act of 1978 for 25 years to include terrorism suspects? Moonbats, every last one of them. Myself, I'll take the chance that some administration in future may abuse the Patriot Act over the virtual certainty of some fucking lunatic with a low yield nuclear weapon popping the damn thing off in my back yard, the like of which will happen if we hamstring our intelligence community. And to anyone who disagrees: I have the families of four dead friends to introduce you to. Posted by: Mr. Lion on September 30, 2003 07:34 PMJust imagining Janet She-Man Reno gives me the willies, let alone her with the Patriot Act. Posted by: Kim du Toit on September 30, 2003 08:04 PMJohn Ashcroft hasn't stormed into my bedroom while I'm banging away with my babe and no Al Queda suicide 747 has prevented me from exploding my hot love spooge into one very tight, wet, hot yearning quivering shaved chasm of joy, so I think he's doin' a helluva job. Posted by: BJK on September 30, 2003 11:04 PM"Just imagine Janet Reno with a Patriot Act." I don't need to. Waco. Need I say more? Posted by: Ripper on October 1, 2003 09:19 AMI could be wrong, but I'm near certain the P A originated on the left, who WERE dreaming of a Reno clone with a Patriot Act. They were harassing the right to help pass it before 9-11. I'm too lazy to research it right now. The act has at least one redeeming virtue: It eliminated the prohibition of mixing terrorist and criminal investigations. We have to ditch the anti- due process and invasion of privacy features. Just because they're not widely abused today doesn't mean they won't be tomorrow. Call/write/email your congressroach and sinator. They're supposed to be working for you. In Larry's fantasy world, they do. Posted by: Larry on October 2, 2003 02:12 AMHi...I´m just surfed in and want to say hello!
