Gut Rumbles

Details in one place

From Day by Day, by the talented Chris Muir. Thanks Chris.

Because the comments here have become so extensive, there is information in them that folks might appreciate, but will have trouble finding, so I'm going to pull some of it out here.

  • There will be a memorial service for Rob at 4 pm on Thursday, June 29th, at Fox & Weeks on Hodgson Memorial Drive in Savannah, followed by a gathering of friends and family to celebrate Rob's life.
  • In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Diabetes Association, 5105 Paulsen St., Suite C-236, Savannah, GA 31405.
  • Rob's obituary is online at the Fox and Week site, and there is a guestbook and email address there for condolences.
  • It was Rob's expressly stated wish that Gut Rumbles remain online, and I will see to it that his legacy is preserved.
  • Lil Toni has posted a sample of Rob's music courtesy of Rob's long-time friend Cat for those of us who never got the chance to hear him play. It's a 3mb file, so be sure to save it to your own drive before playing. In fact, if Lil Toni's willing, and to keep from clobbering her Blogspot site, I'd like to ask for 12 volunteers with excess bandwidth available to mirror the file so others can listen. [UPDATE: additional download locations listed here] Be warned, the resource usage will be heavy. Leave word in the comments, and I'll be in touch.

That was great. Thanks for the link!

Thank you, Paul. Those of us with dial-up will just hafta wait for the DVD.

I'll bet it sounds pretty sweet, though....

Paul thank you for all the updates. Any ideas yet on possibly getting the memorial service on the web, for all of us who would like to be there but can't make it in person? I for one would like to be able to see the service. Not sure if it could even be done or if Sam and the rest of the family would want it to be that public. Just mentioning this since you did state you where checking into this possiblity.

Posted by: Trish on June 28, 2006 04:33 AM

It'd be great if a CD could be made of his music, too.

Posted by: flick on June 28, 2006 05:22 AM

PAULT,

I can mirror the file. Let me know what you need.

Posted by: Pert Moody Newt on June 28, 2006 05:35 AM

Paul,

I've put the song up in my PutFile account. Here's the url:
http://media.putfile.com/Rob-Smith-Acidman---My-Door-Is-Always-Open

You don't have to login to retrieve the song. And any site can link to it.

If, for some reason, the site link goes down, I'll let you know. I'm trying to get it on to MegaUpload right now.

Posted by: Gennie on June 28, 2006 05:44 AM

I downloaded it, and converted it to MP3. If you need another host, let me know. I'll do what I can.

Just an observation Paul....

In the online obit at Fox and Weeks---it says he passed on Wednesday in the text....Maybe someone should change it to Sunday the 26th??

Maybe its a typo....?

Thanks,

Linda~

Taken care of.
Just got off the phone with a very nice lady there, at the funeral home.

She said she'd fix it right away and make sure it runs in the paper corrected.

Posted by: Stevie on June 28, 2006 07:34 AM

I'm going to email Toni and get the file from her. Her site has already exceeded bandwidth. I have space on my server and I'll get it loaded up as soon as I have it in hand.

Posted by: LL on June 28, 2006 07:43 AM

Thanks!! (((((Stevie)))))

Posted by: Dave Smith on June 28, 2006 08:56 AM

Thanks for posting the info all in one place. Will make sure to pass the info down the line.

Posted by: Richard on June 28, 2006 09:15 AM

Is anyone mirroring the file? Could you post a link? I'd like to save a copy and that putfile link won't let me.

Posted by: middy on June 28, 2006 09:29 AM

As soon as someone sends me the file, I can post it immediately. loopylibertarian@gmail.com

Posted by: LL on June 28, 2006 09:38 AM

I've posted over at accidentalverbosity.com, with it hosted on my space at elhide.com, which has a lot of spare bandwidth.

Posted by: Jay on June 28, 2006 09:47 AM

Toni's link is changed to one with a copy on my server.

And I will also post with a link on my site.

Posted by: LL on June 28, 2006 10:22 AM

I've mirrored it here.

Posted by: Zeuswood on June 28, 2006 10:36 AM

I got bandwidth to burn, and a host like a Jewish princess: it never goes down.

You want a mirror, let me know. dipnut - at - isntapundit - dot - com

Posted by: dipnut on June 28, 2006 10:54 AM

Paul, please contact me by e-mail, I can't post a link.

Posted by: confabulator on June 28, 2006 11:23 AM

John of Argghhh! has also posted the song on his site: http://www.thedonovan.com/archives/006013.html

He is asking that we "right click-save as" the file, instead of listening to it straight from his site.

Posted by: AFSister on June 28, 2006 12:22 PM

I've got a link to the song up at my site if you wanna do it that way... or you can try this....
right click and save as....

I am uploading the song now. I would be proud to host a mirror of Rob's song!

Posted by: flesh99 on June 28, 2006 01:36 PM

If anyone wants they can grab it from here as well:

Posted by: flesh99 on June 28, 2006 01:44 PM

Hey Paul - I've got plenty of bandwith if you still need anybody else to host those files.

Let me know.

Mirror of the WMA version

Anybody have the source .WAV file? The WMA -> MP3 transcode left a lot of artifacts in there.

I'll whip up another mirror here shortly.

Another mirror

Posted by: Justin Buist on June 28, 2006 02:33 PM

And...if all else fails: A Coral Cache Mirror

That last one might be slow, but it won't go down.

Posted by: Justin Buist on June 28, 2006 02:36 PM

If you are interested...
My domains are idle and can handle some bandwidth.

No access to high speed from where I'm working at the moment so please send a copy to my email address. I'll move it off the mail server and over onto a directory then hang a link out.

If the doors get blown off, I'll pull it down but otherwise happy to host it.

Posted by: brian on June 28, 2006 03:48 PM

Hmmmm, please let me know if the email address did not come through.
Thanks.
Brian

If there is somebody who just can't run or download the song and wants a CD, I'll be happy to burn it and send it to them. And if/when we get a compilation of other recordings, the same offer applies. I've got a 1:7 burner at work, so I can make quick work of them.

Posted by: Patrick on June 28, 2006 04:59 PM

Patrick, I would be much obliged to have a copy. Just lemme know if I need to send you anything. (postage, blank Cd, SASE, etc...) (I don't have a sound card or a CD burner)

I can be e-mailed at beatle412 at aol . com

Posted by: Steph on June 28, 2006 05:42 PM

Patrick,
I'd love to take you up on your offer, also.
More'n happy to send a coupla bucks for doing it, too.
I'd have bought a CD, had Rob done one, so paying you is fine, too.

And, they finally fixed Rob's obituary... thank goodness...

Posted by: Stevie on June 28, 2006 05:54 PM

Cobber, if you need some more bandwidth for Rob's songs give me a yell; it would be an honour.

CD requests to psennett-at-gmail.com

Posted by: Patrick on June 28, 2006 06:00 PM

If you can't download the file (or if you're on dial-up and don't have the patience) and you can play Quicktime files, I've got a button in the upper left corner of my blog. Click on my name, then go the top left and click to play. You can't save it from that link, but at least you can hear it.

Posted by: Tuning Spork on June 28, 2006 06:24 PM

Let me know if I can help with the mirroring and such.

Posted by: Moogie on June 28, 2006 08:38 PM

Add my name to the list of volunteers, Paul. You'll have to hold my hand gertting ity to work, but I'm anxious to help in any wayt I can.
