Gut Rumbles

October 24, 2005

I love my job, I hate my office. It's overrun with ants!

I keep squashing the little fuckers all over my desk. There's not even any food in here for them. Ok, there is, but I brought it with me just this morning, and I walked into the ant problem, so it's not the source. I can't find where they're coming in from, either.

Any ideas on what I can do besides spray? The ventilation ain't real great, and it doesn't seem to stop them anyway.....

Uncanny coincidence. I'm new to the South and found I had an incomprehensible ant problem as well. A reader turned me on to boric acid and it worked for me.
The buggers have to be coming from somewhere. Watch where they run to and then sprinkle some boric acid at the entry points. They disappeared here almost immediately. I laid down a pretty heavy pile around the entry points though.
The only caveat is that it's still a poison so you don't want to get it where it would contaminate your food or coat your pencils if you chew on them... stuff like that.
good luck

If you've a window, a magnifying glass is always fun.

Diazinon granules. You can get them at any hardware/garden store. Sprinkle the granules around the area where you suspect they may be gaining entry. End of problem.

too bad it's rainy today, bane, or I swear I would.

Try Terro Liquid Ant Baits.

No smell and they work great. If you can't find them at a store, check eBay. That's where I got my last couple of boxes.

What about those little ant hotels they sell?

" I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to...toil in their underground sugar caves...."

just kidding. Terro takes a while, but works well for sugar-eating ants. I cleared a whole house of white-footed ants with it.

Terro is my choice. It gets the little black ones too -- they're the grease eaters, right?

you might try putting some fine sand on the floor and covering it with cheap booze in hopes they will get drunk and get into a rock fight and kill each other off. beats stabbing them withan ice pick

GUYK: Sounds like a cure I learned about in the Navy for certain other critters......

Besides food, ants need a source of water. Any water nearby?

sprinklers outside, water pipes in the building, and the sink in the next room. Plenty.

Plus it's been raining here.
