Gut Rumbles

this happens too often

My cousin Alan, the cop in Florida, is a fairly big man. He's about six feet tall and he weighs well over 200 pounds. He's also shown me a lot of tricks he uses to subdue rowdy suspects when he arrests them. He can grab your thumb and make you sing a hymn to Jesus as you sink to your knees to pray for forgiveness. And he can do it one-handed.

I cannot see ANY circumstance where he would need to taser a 67 year-old woman. I don't care how obnoxious the woman was. I just don't believe that the police needed to hit her with a taser.

I call that being trigger-happy, and you damn nearly read the same kind of story once a week now. Cops are firing tasers at children, old wimmen and whoever else incurs their wrath.

I know that a story always has two sides, and maybe the woman didn't use good sense in dealing with the cops. But I don't think they used good sense in dealing with her, either. And what is it about the taser? Do some cops just like to PLAY with them?

I don't think it's a toy. And if we have a PAIR OF COPS who can't control a 67 year-old woman, we need better cops. Something is just wrong with this picture.

That's MY humble opinion.

Just wow.

An officer, with a backup in tow, would use a taser on a l 67 year old lady ? Then had the nerve to show up to court to prosecute !?!??! And cops wonder why people hate them.

This is the kind of story that makes my husband (a cop for over 30 years) CRINGE. He is now retired, and wants NOTHING to do with them. He wears his seatbelt (although he hates it) for one reason only...and that is because he doesnt want to be stopped, doesnt want to even TALK to these assholes.

The job is shot....they dont make cops like they used to.

wow. this may be the first time i've seen you discuss a woman NOT deserving to be victimized. well done!

ALL tasers need to be withdrawn from law enforcement. "Less than lethal" weapons being carried by law enforcement is stupid.

In all honesty, I do not even understand WHY cops are issued them in the first place. Either someone needs to get shot with a bullet, or be handled physically.

Random electrecutions are not an acceptable solution.

How does one fire the Police? By repealing most of the law.

Even if everything the cops said were true, there is no way this woman or her husband should have been up before a judge, and most certainly she should not have been tasered.

This appears to be a clearcut case of "Contempt of Cop".

As Kim would say, this is a RCOB moment.

I've seen 67-year-old women who look like they could take on Hulk Hogan. But at that age, they wouldn't have the physical stamina to actually do it. However, Hulk Hogan (or a cop) with a taser could possibly bring on a heart attack on her by giving her the zzzaappp. What kind of idiots make it into the police force these days?
Oh, I forgot. The same kind that D.C hired a few years back when they got really short-handed. Dope dealers, rapists, violent thugs... At one point half the department seemed to be up on some kind of charge. I see Ruth's husband's point all too clearly. Don't get me started on neighboring Prince George's County, Maryland.

You don't know KC cops. They make the Gestapo look friendly. They and the LAPD should be declared terrorist organizations and hauled half way to Gitmo.
