physician, heal thyself

Does this sound like training or a brainwashing exercise in political correctness? I smell the distinct aroma of bullshit in the air.

New Jersey doctors must now receive cultural competency training to obtain or renew their medical licenses as a result of legislation signed Wednesday by acting Gov. Richard J. Codey.

The law aims to address racial and gender health disparities by improving the medical care of women and minority patients, Codey said during a bill signing at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford.

"Cultural Competency Training." Hmmm... I received some of that in my corporate life. In MY experience, it amounts to being told that you are a racist, racism is evil, and therefore you should feel really guilty for being the evil racist you obviously are.

What a bunch of crap.

Sure is.

I saw a piece about this on New Jersey News, and one of the examples of "cultural competency" that was cited as being important to doctors was the awareness that the incidence of certain medical conditions, such as sicke cell anemia, varies with race. Any medical school worth a damn already teaches doctors that type of stuff as part of the regular cirriculum. I view that as "medical competency."

This is just more politically correct baloney that will smoke up yet more of Jersey taxpayers' dollars.

Again the stench of Communism.

I'd settle for mental competence. As it is, I see little reason in the medical profession today.

Most training seminars are a waste, but they don't have to be.
For years my daughter taught a one-day seminar for a "training company",
in cities all over the country.
"Conflict Management and Resolution for Women".
First question: "How many of you women were sent here by a boss
who did not want to solve a problem in your office?" Always at least 75%.

Since she's also a stand-up comedian, at least they were entertained.
The company got a lot of letters saying she had made their lives better.
That made me a VERY proud dad.

more crap from states wanting to raise $$ for the state coffers....... I'm an RN in Tx and total fees have increased the past couple of licensing renewal periods as more "competency training" BS is legislated..... whatever.......

you must have attended the same Diversity Training class I did. if you are a white male, you are a racist and if you deny it, it only proves you are. that is the problem with the current crop of corporate execs "educated" by our left wing colleges.

This cultural awareness bill is just an example of a law that means well but is seriously lacking in common sense. The bill was passed without any thought by anyone as to how the program for cultural awareness is to be presented to physicians.{Heaven forbid lawyers such be required to take such a course} Of course, if you should happen to question the necessity for such a bill to be considered you are immediately made out to be a bigot and a misgynist!!! Now if you really want to hear something docs wait until you hear what is going to happen to MIIX. MIIX is the Medical Insurance Exchange of NJ which was forced to close shop and PAY ALL CLAIMS with the money it now has in its coffers. If it cannot pay all claims it will be taken over by the NJ Property Liability Guaranty Association. They will only pay 300,000 dollars to any plaintiff who wins a malpractice suit. This means that any award OVER 300,000 dollars will have to be paid by the physician himself. Just great!!! All these years I have been paying for 1,000,000 to 3,000,000 dollars worth of insurance because I had to only to find out that when it comes to crunch time I might owe 700,000 dollars in a million dollar settlement which is about the average these days. And the legislature is worried about OUR CULTURAL AWARENESS. Remember these are the same guys that made the tomato the official state vegetable. Ony one problem, the tomato is a fruit not a vegetable!!! Now remember my motto, New Jersey makes and Trenton takes.Yours truly, truly, Miles A. Brumberg, DO/Sewell, NJ
