Mexican Latino population in Effingham County is growing by leaps and bounds. I think a lot of those people came here to pick fruit and onions, but they stayed because they found construction jobs that paid a lot better than stoop-labor. Once they made a little money, they started opening restaurants, grocery stores and small businesses. They put down roots, the hard-working little turds.
"Se Habla Espanol." You need that sign if you run a business in Effingham County anymore.
I LIKE the fact that El Ranchero is open in downtown Rincon. I go in there to drink Dos Exes beer, practice my Spanish and eat the best damned stuffed avacodo I ever tasted, con pollo y quesa, with refried beans, rice, sour cream and guacomole to spread over everything. I walk in there and waddle out. (Did I mention that my appetite has been VERY GOOD for the past week?)
I don't know how many of those brown-skinned people are here legally. I don't WANT to know, either. They work hard, they take care of their young'uns and most of them speak TWO languages, even though most Americans can't speak ONE. But yesterday, as I was stuffing my face with a stuffed avacado and taking Spanish lessons, I thought... "If these people were Muslims, would I think the same way?"
WOW!!! I HATE it when my brain does that to me!
NO! I would NOT feel the same way, at all. If we had Afghanistan on our southern border instead of Mexico, and turbaned, red-eyed, bearded FREAKS sneaking across the border by the thousands, with a Koran in one hand and a bomb-belt in the other, I would be TERRIBLY upset. I'd petition the government to STOP THAT SHIT!!!
Well, government should stop that shit. The latin people I see here are no threat to me or the good old USA. I like hearing the sound of Spanish spoken. I like the food and the cerbeses frias at El Ranchero. But that's beside the point.
If we can't protect our borders, then we have no borders, and without borders, we have no country. This is no minor problem, which is why politicians don't want to address it. But somebody better--- soon.
It's just too easy to get into this country.
...and it's one of the reasons I will make my run for Congress in 2006.
Dude, you can't put everyone into boxes. There are good "Mexicans" and bad "Mexicans." Just as there are good people from the "Middle East" and bad people from there.
Recently, I have met a a couple of people who were from Syria. They moved to our country many years ago to get away from the oppressive government. They are good people.
We should not condemn a whole culture and people based on what the government of that country does. (That seems to be what we are all doing these days.)
If we would take the time to get to know the people, AND understand the quirks of the culture, it would be better for everybody.
Screw the government. Not every person belives in what the governenment preaches.
Every country has a different culture, and if we just spent some time trying to understand those culters and differences.......we might get a speck closer to world peace. (And I mean that for boths sides of the coin.)
Oh, Hit Him With The Wacky Stick!! World peace; the chimera of the starry eyed moon unit. Several pungent adjectives of disgust upon your foul head. Moron would be a good start.
A few years ago in Caleeforneea it wasn't bad having a few illegals around. Now the are sucking the life out of our school and medical systems, and looking at those of us Born Here with suspicion and distain when we don't speckenzy fucking espaniol.
Want to live the American Dream?
Come on Down my hermanos y hermanas.
But DO IT LEGALLY...........Or Get Thee South, and do NOT come back without a green ticket in sus manos!
America used to be a melting pot. Our ancestors came here and learned English and blended into the AMERICAN culture. Now anyone just simply hops the fence and demands that WE speak THEIR sh*tty country's language, give THEM medical and school services (and welfare) despite their illegal status. Oh yeah, and the constant gazillion dollar lawsuits because THEIR "Constitutional Rights" (which they don't f*ing have) are violated in some manner or another.
We are now constantly slapped in the head with whiney cries "We need to understand THEIR culture" and "They do all the jobs that WE don't wanna do".
As I type this, there's a commercial on TV for "learn to speak spanish with the 'Amigo'" tapes. "Moosica means music!" Gee, thanks, but I don't give a damn, 'cause ya know what? Americans EARNED THE RIGHT to speak only one language in the world. I for one will not learn to speak THEIR countries crappy language, THEY need to f*ing learn English and begin to become Americans... Or get the F* out. I can't imagine my grandparents moving to the United States and refusing to speak anything other than Swedish and expect to get by in this country on welfare.
Oh, I can mow my own f*ing lawn, and raise my own kids without an illegal mexican "Nanny". There are plenty of LEGAL immigrants that will do work for low wages initially, and WORK their way up the food chain towards the AMERICAN dream.
If they were Muslims you wouldn't be drinking Dos Equis...
I think we need to do something about illegal immigration! I really do, however!
I could find no one to take care of my dying father in law. I found a wonderful lady from the same place you went to Rob! She was the best! She was there 24-7 when we couldn't be. The "Old Fart" fell in love with her. Everybody else said he was too much and needed to be in hospice. He refused to do that. I like that!
I'm a hypocrit, but I'll do anything to make this gal a citizen!
I love the fact that people come to this contry to work and make it a better place. They just gotta follow the rules!
Dude, you have one of the best blogs on the web. :D
Why thank you Pecker Wood.
Bush is the nitwit that wants to legitimize the 10-million undocumented illegals. Let's see 10 million grateful Republicans vs. busting the greasy hordes back to where they came from. A no brainer. They stay
There's a farmer named Vic Hanson out in California. Wrote a book "Mexifornia" on exactly that subject. It's a good read (Victor Davis Hanson).
I lived in DC for a while right after the towers fell. I was in a neighborhood with a bunch of Afghanis who came over. They had it tough but were going along like any other immigrant and fellow American.
Except for those guys in that one school. Not necessarily Afghans, mind ya. They about worried the hell out of me. Looks like now that there was some evil going down in Maryland and VA around the District--and the decent Afghani folks had it double hard just trying to keep out of trouble and do right.
Tough damn place to be in a life. I even knew of a kid who went back with the Army guys in OIF--started himself up a radio station, I hear. Good for him.
but DO IT LEGALLY. No kidding. I have illegal aliens running all over my town. They may pay taxes, and contribute, but they still hopped the fence. There needs to be a way to put agencies in countries where illegals come from, and say "You want in U.S., this is how the system works.".
BTW, I will be old enough to also make a political run in 2006.
Well holy shit. Your mexicans behave!! Down here in Tucson they rear end you and RUN, don't carry insurance. (happened to my fiancee and I on Friday) They suck off of our educational systems, our healthcare, but when it's time to pony up and pay taxes they run back to mexico.
I think Andy and I are from the same part of the country.
And for all I know, there could be (and probably are) terrorists coming in with the brown flood. God knows the borders have all the integrity of a colander.
How would you like to go to any country in the world, get a higher paying job, better living conditions, govt handouts, and be immune to any law and order (not being a citizen), yet completely protetcted by those laws from citizen retaliation, and be able to do whatever you want, with absolutely no fear because the worst punishment they can give you for anything you do is paying for your ticket home so you can come back next week? That's exactly what happens here.
