the third rail

I have a shameful confession to make: I am a member of AARP. Yeah, I joined even though I despise their political views--- but I can get EXCELLENT motel rate discounts with my card, and I'm old enough to qualify. Why not take advantage of THAT???

But, deep in my heart, I agree with this post. Geezers are the most greedy, money-grubbing, selfish, hooray-for-me-and-fuck-YOU people in this country today. They've already torn off a large chunk of the American Pie, and they hover over it like ravenous dogs while they clack their dentures and bark for MORE, especially now that they aren't paying for it.

Greatest Generation, my ass.

Anybody with a functional brain KNOWS that Social Security is headed for a train-wreck. The Geezers know it, too, but they don't give a shit, and the craven politicians we call "leaders" today don't give a shit, either. Geezers get their checks and they vote in droves, so politicians kiss Geezer ass. Both sets of shitbags expect to die before the perfidy of their actions comes home to roost. It'll be somebody else's problem then.

The common philosophy is: I got MINE!!! That's all that matters.

I go to Florida a lot. I see Geezers living in resort communities, enjoying the high life. They play golf every day, drive like fucktards, dress as if they believe they are still young and whip out pictures of their grandchildren at the drop of a hat. Oh, yeah. They LOVE those grandchildren, but they don't care about the load of debt their Geezerdom is heaping on Little Timmy's head.

I tried this once, when I was fairly drunk in Winterhaven, Florida.

ME: "Yeah, Timmy is a cute kid. Poor bastard."

Geezer: "What do you mean?"

ME: "You're bankrupting his ass. You KNOW that, don't you?"

Geezer: "What do you mean?"

ME: "What did you do today, before we sat down here and had a $50 lunch?"

Geezer: "I had breakfast at the Country Club and then I played golf."

ME: "You hurting for money? Having trouble paying for your prescription drugs"

Geezer: "No, I'm doing okay. I worked 40 years for the same company and I invested well. Sold the house in New Hampshire and made a killing."

ME: "Bush wants to cut Social Security."

Geezer: "KILL HIM!!! VOTE HIM OUT OF OFFICE!!! He's trying to take MY MONEY!!!"

Forget about little Timmy. THAT'S the real Geezer mentality.

Comments

I don't get that. It's not going to cut THEIR SS bennies, it's gonna kill OURS!

But of course it'll be well worth it just to phase the shit out.

Posted by: Key on December 15, 2004 02:21 PM

That's THE POINT, Key. The Geezers don't give a shit about what happens to their grandchildren or ANYBODY ELSE under that bankrupt system. They just want to keep getting THEIRS, and to hell with everybody else.

INCLUDING their grandchildren.

Greedy fucks.

- "Greatest Generation, my ass."

My dad quit High School at 17 years to enter a fight for OUR ass - YOU IDIOT! You ramble and boast on this site with your definitions of true manhood. How dare you! How DARE you!
He occupied a seat on a landing craft and watched (as much as he could see thru a hail of bullets) as YOUNG KIDS jumped into waters of DEATH. The tales he tells will chill your spine. And they fucked him up for life.
I have had the Honor of talking to some of his war budds... jesus!!!
To somehow place the blame of the fiscal problems of this country on the: VERY PEOPLE WHO SAVED IT! How dare you!!!
You take great delight in your boasts of manhood, and guns, and courage.
Emerson pegged your kind so long ago- "The more he boasted of his honor, the faster I counted the spoons. "
Since my dad is now in a VA Hospital - getting chemo for lung cancer... and sucking up Y'ALLS MONEY... I'll be be sure to tell him of his ill-gotten CARE.. you piece of SHIT!
You love your little down home story -time... here's one:
When my dad came back from the WAR... he went to work in a cotton mill... worked there for 30 years. The owners of the Southern mill (stationed in New York) ordered the mill to shut-down in the middle of the night. I was just a kid then. And for the first time in his (according to you - WHINEY LIFE,) my dad was in a bind. A severe bind! And guess what? When times got too hard for his mind and hands to manage, he asked the government for help.
And he was told by the U.S. Government: "You Do Not Qualify!!!"
He quit school at 17 to fight the Japs - worked like a damn dog for most of his life in a cotton mill... but when the SHIT HIT HIS FAN: HE DID NOT QUALIFY for aid for HIS FUCKING FAMILY!!!
Let me tell you the truth GUT RUMBLES... my old man is/was MORE MAN than you will ever hope/wish to be.
Godamn! HOW DARE YOU!!!
A fucking woman leaves your ass and I am subject to untold months of whining and bitching on your part. And you degrade TRUE MEN like my Father!
HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!!

Right on, Acidman. Geezers get government handouts like nobody's business, even if they're rich. Enjoy those free pills, you old farts. Come the revolution, you and your walkers will be UP AGAINST THE WALL.

God bless... America(?) Russia? Pre-World War II Germany?
We have met the enemy and he is... who?
You have an interesting following for a "good ole Southern boy" there... Gut Rumbles.
OK... a cheap shot... but it should frighten you nonetheless.
And you do so appreciate the strong cheap shot.

D. Lee, i agree with you. The problem is people like Gut Rumbles think they are right and will will never be proved wrong (in there minds). I do agree with acidman when he speaks of alot of the "Greatest Generation" but not all act that way, your father included. In a couple of years they will see things quite differently.

Posted by: Halo on December 15, 2004 04:21 PM

D. Lee, I have a simple question. Why does jumping out of a landing craft on D-Day entitle a Geezer to bankrupt his grandchildren?

I haven't seen an argument here yet that refutes mine. Yeah, I HAVE THE NERVE to tell the wrinkled old farts to take what they have and shut up.

They've already got more than YOUR children will ever have.

Posted by: Acidman on December 15, 2004 04:31 PM

Social security was supposed to be similar to a gov't pension. It's been abused and turned into a paycheck for anyone unable to work. Bull shit.

It's not the old geezers problem - they put into the system, they deserve to get it back, regardless of their current financial situation. Or are you an advocate of From
each according to their ability, to each according to their need?

What needs to change is who gets SS benefits. It should only be for workers that contributed to the system and have reached retirement age. The only non-contributing recipients should be the contributor's surviving spouses. Not kids. Not cripples. Not anyone that didn't contribute.

Posted by: The Other Mike S on December 15, 2004 04:57 PM

The Other Mike is absolutely right. SS has been stolen and given to people who never paid into it, and for reasons as far off base as having an "emotionally disturbed" child in school.

At age 17 I had to get a SS # in order to take a job with a large corporation. I am now near 70 and have paid into SS until retirement 5 years ago. Would you have me take a "means test" to see if I really "Need" SS?

AARP? No longer. The liberal bastards would take my guns.

Posted by: Twin on December 15, 2004 06:33 PM

SS was supposed to be a SUPPLEMENT to a pension or savings, not THE pension or savings. Most of those of the older generation alive have already gotten out more than they ever contributed, and it still isn't enough.

My parents only recieve about $550 a month from their SS, and it's the only income they have, but even they say that, in all honesty, they wish they could have invested that money instead, and it can't go on as it is without bankrupting my kids down the line.

I know I'll never see a penny of what I contributed. And the fact that I can't pass it along to my kids only makes it harder to countenance.

We have an obligation to provide for those on the program at present, but we should do something to end the cycle and allow people to provide for themselves, instead of relying on the vagaries of the Nanny state.

Some people just live to prove the point of people they disagree with, and D. Lee looks like one of them.

Posted by: McGehee on December 15, 2004 08:20 PM

A fucking woman leaves your ass and I am subject to untold months of whining and bitching on your part.

Rob, why have you been forcing this poor man to read your blog?

Posted by: McGehee on December 15, 2004 08:22 PM

Exactly, McGehee.

WTF? No one is FORCING you to read ANYTHING D. Lee. If you don't like what Acidman has to say, go away. You've left your opinion, it isn't changing his, so move on.

Posted by: Sam on December 15, 2004 08:45 PM

My youngest sister has milked that SS pig trough for years. She doesn't deserve shit.

The Other Mike has a good point: no tickee, no shirtee. All the fucking moochers should be sent packing, and the money given to those that paid throught the nose for all their working days. That system is only a sodden hairball because the politicians have used the money to buy votes.

Posted by: wes jackson on December 16, 2004 12:04 AM

The seniors only get 60% of the SS money. Deadbeats and crazies and handicaps get 40%.

Posted by: Dan on December 16, 2004 01:57 AM

I would have to live to be 105 yrs. old just to get back the money I paid in. Thats without interest.
I have to assume all of you who are against ssa payments will turn them down when you become eligible.

Posted by: J. Thomas on December 16, 2004 09:13 AM

J.Thomas, you, sir, are either mathematical retard or a liar. I dunno which.

In adjusted for inflation dollars, you get back your Social Security money (when you include Medicare payments) in something like 10 years of drawing benefits. Especially as medical costs increase as you get older.

That's it. After that you are sucking on the gummint tit just like the welfare moms and Todds and the crips. (Sorry to the Todds and Crips for lumping you in there, but...)

Oh yeah, there won't BE SSA benefits when I get to 62, either so turning them down won't be a problem.

Posted by: MunDane on December 16, 2004 12:18 PM

Social Security should be phased out. Pay off those already in the rat trap and go to privatization.

For that smarmy fuck thumbing his nose at "gen x / y " your old asses ain't homefree yet.

The moral relativism of the hippie liberal will be back in force. What did Hitler do with all those ovens?

Posted by: Reed Richards on December 16, 2004 05:01 PM

I've been tearing up and tossing the AARP stuff they've been mailing me for the last few years. I understand why they do what they do, but I don't agree with it.
