November 18, 2004very slickI had more than 200 spam comments today from a very clever individual. He kept changing one little dot or slash on every piece of spam so that I couldn't go through and delete bunches of them at a time. I had to do them all one by one. He ALSO spammed comments from posts in that missing year-and-a-half of my archives that I can't find. This fucker is GOOD. If he would show me how he found my missing archived posts, I might LET him spam me for that privilege. But that ain't gonna happen. I deleted his comments one by one, then banned his ISP for good measure. I spent an hour and a half doing that. Spam all gone now, and I hope I didn't catch any innocent bystanders in the ISP ban. But sometimes, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. I had to do this, and I will every time a spammer attacks, no matter how long it takes me. Asshole. I ain't lettin' you win. Comments
Just checkin' to see if ya got me banned or not! Posted by: Michele on November 18, 2004 02:41 PMI make an effort to close all comments on posts over 6 months old. I'm telling you, it works. Posted by: Gennie on November 18, 2004 02:44 PMYou're da man!!! Don't let the bass-turds win!!! Posted by: WarWagon on November 18, 2004 02:51 PMi don't get why this would happen--how would you attract spammers to your comments? is it the type of comments you have, or..? Posted by: beth on November 18, 2004 03:46 PMHad to check me as well. I spend hours banning people from mine too. First, I ban amd report to b2evolution, then I ban the ip from accessing my site. And for the poster that didn't get it, here is the main reason why they spam. We bloggers are listed on most search engines ie google. Then, if we don't remove they get their url indexed when our sites are spidered. Free publicity. Posted by: Danielle on November 18, 2004 04:44 PMListen, do you want that Scode thing I put on my blog? I have not had ONE spam comment since I installed it. It is a bear (for people like me) to put in, but I'll do it for you if you promise me cold beverages at the next blogmeet. :) Velociman and Val Prieto are already in line to get the plugin from me, but mail me if you want to get on the install list and I'll get you started on the requirements. Posted by: kelley on November 18, 2004 05:16 PMYep I'm going to spend tonight shutting all the comments down on my blog. I only get 20 a day but I don't have the time to despam my blog all the time. Posted by: Pamala on November 18, 2004 07:29 PMAcidman, My husband and I have worked out a easy way to get rid of spam and shut down comments that are really old. If you want to know how to do this please email me but I've sucessfully removed all spam from my site and now I am allowing comments again. Posted by: Pamala on November 18, 2004 09:27 PMGot a license for what you aim to do, Acidman? Of course, for what I just did, you might just use it on me! Posted by: Aaron's Rantblog on November 19, 2004 12:25 AMYo, Baby!!!! I told ya before I have links to yer old stuff. They're right in my book marks. It's not the "listed" archives, like you had before, but it IS links, that make it possible to see, read and keep the whole load... Since you're leaving for a while (but, so is my personal comouter wizard, Paul) I'll see what can be done, if anything, to make them as easy to preuse as they used to be. (Well, they aren't HARD to get to now, but, maybe I can just re-generate the whole "list" somehow, I dunno. I'll look into it. Have fun in CR! *hugs*
(Make that "comPuter wizard", please... sorry *grin*) Posted by: Stevie on November 19, 2004 12:59 AMHey guys, spammers are people too! We should reach out and try to understand the problems and backgrounds these poor people have endured. Let's try and get in touch with their pain, empathise with their hurt. They need hugging, not banning. Let's welcome and celebrate their diversity, lets empower them to take ownership of their lives!
I'm going to have to go with kick 'em in the nuts, Will. Didn't we just jettison that sensitive crap? Posted by: Al on November 21, 2004 09:11 PMPost a comment
