brilliant idea

If you study history, you understand that people are ALWAYS going to do three things, because they ALWAYS have. They will gamble, they will get fucked-up and they will fornicate. Governments have tried for thousands of years to forbid such behavior, but people still gamble, get fucked-up and fornicate, no matter what kind of laws they have to violate to do it. It's human nature.

That's why I believe that this is a ridiculous idea. You put a virile young man in uniform and send him thousands of miles from home, and he's going to get laid. It's human nature.

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. troops stationed overseas could face courts-martial for patronizing prostitutes under a new regulation drafted by the Pentagon.

The move is part of a Defense Department effort to lessen the possibility that troops will contribute to human trafficking in areas near their overseas bases by seeking the services of women forced into prostitution.

In recent years, ``women and girls are being forced into prostitution for a clientele consisting largely of military services members, government contractors and international peacekeepers'' in places like South Korea and the Balkans, Rep. Christopher Smith, R-N.J., said Tuesday at a Capitol Hill forum on Pentagon anti-trafficking efforts.

Just what is the Pentagon really trying to accomplish here? Dry up the trade in pussy by court-marshal? It ain't gonna work, because prostitution isn't called the "world's oldest profession" for nothing and it's going to be around forever. Plus, this new regulation is really going to boost troop morale.

Beware of ANY organization that believes it can change human nature with a rule, a law or a regulation. If wimmen being "forced into prostitution" is a problem, put pressure on the governments responsible for this slave trade to make them clean up their own act. That won't work, either, but it's more morally defensible than this bullshit.

Gen. Leon J. LaPorte, commander of the 37,000 U.S. troops in South Korea, said another initiative started on the peninsula has been to ``make on-base military life a more desirable experience, and attempt to diminish the seductive appeal of many of the less wholesome off-duty pursuits.''

That effort includes offering expanded evening and weekend education programs, band concerts, late-night sports leagues and expanded chaplains' activities.

Midnight basketball and expanded chaplain activities won't stop a trooper from getting laid. But this stupid regulation WILL make a lot of those troops criminals.

Brilliant idea.

Maybe these Dorks @ DD should pull out the the records of how the military managed the red light districts in San Francisco and Pearl Harbor during WWII. They might find that we won that war.

Is anyone else concerned about this?

This is normal foo foo BS that D.A. puts out. It is already against the UCMJ , just saber rattling to prove to the public that our boys won't be tarnished by overseas pussy.

What kind of idiots really think they can stop 17-25 year olds from trying to get laid. As someone said above it is already illegal and it is also illegal to catch the clap, but when I was when the fleet pulled into subic bay half of the battalion would catch a dose of something before we left. Never stopped anyone. The only people they are kidding is themselves.

There are currently some scandals underway with UN peacekeeper troops trafficking in child prostitutes, and more traditional flavors of white slavery, both in Europe and in Africa. I think the concern is to head off any cases of Abu Ghraib-level notoriety before they get out of hand in the Age Of Blogs which we now live in.

Another difficulty is the feminization of the military. Once upon a time, during World War Two, it was possible for commands to actually regulate brothels, designating which were permissible to patronize, which were off-limits, and giving the girls check-ups and testing for VD. Officers were assigned to oversee this. Imagine something like that being attempted these days. Any commander that attempted it would be shitcanned as a sexual harrasser faster than you could say "Pimp logic", and I think that increasing feminization of the force automatically introduces Feminist politics into what our people do for recreation during their free time.
Women, as a breed, can be obnoxiously oppressive if given half a chance, much more so than men.

Another factor would seem to be force protection-the art of keeping your guys from getting killed. I sort of think it wouldn't take too many of our people getting kidnapped from the whorehouse and having their living head sawed off on videotape before the command ordered visits to the place secured.

I realize that this isn't much of a factor in South Korea, but there is a growing anti-American sentiment there, which is complicating the bottling up of the Norks. My guess is that this will be humored as much as Smith wants to take it, and then quietly ignored when he finds a new enthusiasm.

The whole thing is basically a silly-ass idea, my attempts to understand the logic behind it notwithstanding. One of the first things taught a leader is never give an order you know won't be obeyed, it just undercuts your authority.

Not to mention that in South Korea, the prostitutes are actually US sanctioned!! They get free health care and ID cards at the bases over there in the interest of keeping their patrons (US GI's) relatively disease (and half-korean child) free. Obtaining one of these health cards represents a substantial jump in income for a young korean lady of the night and/or her Mama San.
Ain't gonna happen, folks.

The human nature trinity that I was taught was fighting, fornicating and drinking.

I'm open minded, though. Let's add gambling

Guys I knew who spent time in Korea said that they could hire a "mama-san" for $5.00 a week. She cooked, cleaned and warmed his bed at night.

What young GI is going to pass on THAT deal?

It seems that statists never learn and never give up. But really it's part of the plan. If you make the inevitable criminal, you have a tool to control people. And that, to a statist, is a Good Thing.

Damn them all to hell!

Women hate whores because they devalue the pussy.

It's "her body" when it's time to drill a hole in a fetus's skull but they're not allowed to sell the act.

Hypocrites.
