wall's drug store

While Recondo and I were making our way out of South Dakota, we saw all the signs. They popped up about every 100 yards, the way the ads for Chico's Monkey Farm once did on old Highway 17. As nearly as I could figure, Wall's has it ALL.

You want fresh, home-made ice cream? They've got it. You want genuine western wear? They've got it. You need biker leather? They've got it. You want to pet a goat or mount a giraffe? They've got it. You want antiques? They've got 'em.

The place is just outside of the Badlands and we didn't stop because we were trying to put Sturgis as far behind us as we could at the time. this woman emailed me and said that we shouldn't miss the place, but we did. I may go back and see it next summer.

It must really be something.

Mount a giraffe?

Been 34 years since I was there, but I sure remember enjoying it.

I don't think I'd be looking to mount a giraffe. Even if I were ... into that sort of thing, ladders and ... that sort of thing just don't mix, IMHO.

Don't ask why.

I was there as a young 'un. I remember their claim to fame was "FREE ICE WATER".

The store (hey, it's the whole damn street of "stores') is OK.
This is America. Advertising rules. The ice water IS free.

But, how can you beat looking at all them other tourists who had a bitch of a time finding a place to park so they can walk by all the stuff watching all the other tourists who had a bitch of a time finding a place to park who in turn are watching you after you had a bitch of a time . . .

Do it in the summer. The wimmen are in shorts. I mean the girls are in shorts. Most of the "wimmen" are in fat. This is America.

Yep, they do have free ice water. It's also a good place to have a good greasy eggs and potatoes breakfast. I passed through last summer about 6 AM and there were already all sorts of folks walking around. It's a fun place to check out!
