damn good movie
I watched The Treasure of the Sierra Madre on TV today. It was the old black-and-white version, too. Humphrey Bogart is outstanding as Fred C. Dobbs.
I remember reading that book some time during my college days (I became a big B. Traven fan after that experience) and I see why Hollywood sanitized the movie for public consumption. The book was too raw a story about human nature for most people to handle in a movie theater.
Greed. Suspicion. Selfishness. Evil. Betrayal. A lust for wealth, where enough is NEVER enough. Murder and robbery. Yeah, that story has it all.
Watch it, and you can see 10,000 years of human history playing out before your eyes.
