a day in the life of a neo-fascist

I awake every morning at 0430. I turn on my bedside TV, light a cigarette and watch the news. I finish the cigarette and get out of bed. I start the water running in the shower and go to the kitchen to fetch a Mountain Dew. I take a big gulp on my way back to my bedroom, and I take a shower.

I comb my hair, shave and brush my teeth. I try to get all of these tasks done by 0500 so that I can watch the Weather Channel. I plan and schedule all the maintenance in my area at work and the weather is important to me. You don't weld outside or do baghouses in the rain.

I leave home at 0520 in the morning. I have a long drive to work and I like to get there by 0600. That gives me time to check my email, evaluate the quality analysis of yesterday's production and read the shift supervisor's log. I look to see what's in the "emergency" pipeline to maintenance, and I try to be in the shift supervisor's office by 0630.

I take a tour on the way there that pretty much tells me how the area is running. I like to talk to the off-going supervisor as he makes relief with the on-coming guy. That hour between 0600 and 0700 is the most valuable hour of my day. It sets the stage for everything that happens after that.

I leave work at around 1600 in the afternoon unless we're having problems. If hell's a-poppin', I stay later. That's my job. I do that every working day.

I am well compensated for what I do and I pay an assload of taxes as a result. I am a single man with NO benefits from the government. After my divorce, I bought a house because I cannot afford NOT to own a home. A mortgage interest deduction is the only thing that keeps the government from thoroughly raping me.

I am at the point of my life where raises in pay mean nothing anymore. The government gets most of it. I got a nice raise in March. It was higher than most people got. I saw a grand total of 45% of it on my next paycheck. 10% of my income goes into a 401-K plan, but the rest of that raise went to the feds, and they don't do a goddam thing for me.

I don't WANT or NEED the federal government doing a goddam thing for me. In fact, I wish they would just take the fucking money and leave me alone. Rape me, but don't fuck with me. It doesn't work that way.

The federal government is The Blob. It slithers everywhere, extends its tentacles under doors, behind walls and around corners into every aspect of your life. It's getting down to "governing" at the molecular level now. 1984, here we are.

Electing George Bush as President did nothing to stop the Blob or even slow it down. Hell, he's one of THEM!

I am not.

Your life is being micro-managed by the right wing conservatives who want to put their hand in everyone's pie, tell you who and how to worship, dictate what you can and cannot do with your own body and the air space around you, how and whether you should worship a God and which god, if any....

Need I say more? The government hasn't been "by" or "for" the people in a very very long time. And it likely won't be ever again.... Republican? Democrat? Just two sides of the same overreaching coin.

Hey Rob, had Gore won, the government would own your dick and be telling you when you could pump it up, too. They'd probably also have had you arrested by now for that snake assassination last week, and had you locked away for counseling and "re-education" for all of your anti-government rants.

In retrospect of a phenomenally growing government, Bush has been no picnic but it could have been much, much worse. Now all we have to do is get the GOP to grow some real balls on a social level, and make them learn to leave us alone, socially. Then shrinking government would be nice, but I fear it will take a lot more than commentary to do that. Revolution, anyone?

As for Joni - sounds like you're describing exactly what the Democrats have been pushing for years. Think about it.

Joni was traumatized when she ran into Tammy Faye Bakker at the mall. She got buried under an avalanche of three feet of base and six inches of powder.

Hasn't been the same since.

While I agree that the system needs a major over-haul, I would be saddened to see the tax credits eliminated completely.

There is one group of people that shouldn't HAVE to rely on this "credit" to supplement their income, but they do -- our military members and their families.

Those six years we spent as a military family were the poorest years of our lives. Those were also the only years that we have EVER qualified for the tax credits.

We didn't use this money to 'do something nice for our kids'. We didn't use this money to buy a little something for us. We didn't use it to buy a computer, a tv, a stereo, or take a fucking vacation. We used it to survive because Uncle Sam made damn sure we weren't paid enough to survive without it.

We haven't seen that credit since 1995 - the year he left the service. Now we pay our taxes and try to remember that there is a soldier out there somewhere who is risking his life to defend our country, and the income for his sacrifice doesn't even put him above the poverty line.

It's a disgrace, and something needs to be done about it first, before we make changes to the system.

bullshit. you watch the weather channel for the same reason everyone else does who can't stand whats on the rest of the dumb fucking TV! And whatever happened to Jenna whatsername? The pregnant one? She was hot.

And sometimes if your really lucky they'll play a song during the local radar shit by The Weather Report, like "portrait of tracy" or some other five minutes of freakjazz insanity, and you can ponder what a fucking shame the whole deal with Jaco REALLY was.

Am i right or what? yeah yeah.

Oh dear. Dear, dear me. The Federal Government does nothing for you? Oh come on Rob. How about funding that army you're so proud of? How about providing a decent education for your son? I know you piss and moan about a lot of the "liberal" stuff they tell him, but I don't see you rushing off to teach him his long division.
And of course this doesn't include the FDA checking to make sure those Hot Pockets you eat aren't tainted, or the EPA making sure you aren't poisoned by lethal fumes, or your state government keeping up your roads, stoplights, trash collection, police and fire departments, etc. I can abide mistakes, but you're just plain ignorant.
