Gut Rumbles

March 13, 2005

off to the rodeo

I'm showered, shaved, dressed and as ready as I'm going to get for today's festivities. I hate this shit. I just hope that I can hold myself together through two hours of "visitation" at the funeral home. Mama would want me to make her proud.

I'll do my best, but I won't enjoy it.

My thoughts are again with you today in your time of grief.
Cry if you need to cry Rob, there's no shame in that, but hold your head high and be proud that you are your mother's son. I'd give anything to have had the sort of relationship that you had with your mother. I know she is very proud to have been your mom.

My sincere condolences on your loss, A-man. I know what it's like losing a parent, especially a good, loving parent. Know that there are those of us out here who care and understand. I believe your Mama was very proud of you and your brother, that she loved you dearly. You always have the love, it can't ever be taken away, it was gift from her to you. God bless you and comfort you, now more than ever. I read you every day and have come to appreciate you and your writing. Take care, my friend.

I think your mama would want you to know that anyone there will understand perfectly if you have to let go for a moment or two every once in a while. She wouldn't want you crying for her of course, but she'd understand that tears are a release that even a strong man sometimes has to take.

Hopefully there will be enough of her really true friends there with whom to share all the good times, including a few giggles! Take away nothing but the good memories, Rob.

I second Aquila's thoughts. You can never lose her love. It is one thing that we all leave as our legacy.

Don't comment much here, but pretty much read you every day. Just wanted to send you my condolences. Don't know much else to say that hasn't been said better by others. Just damn, just damn.......

Dear, I'd be there if it were possible. I'm just glad that Samantha finally made it. You're in my heart.

I don't blog but I have been lurkin' round here fer a while. I'm 57 and an unreconstructed son of the South, like you. We been down a lot of the same roads and I can tell ya that there's no pain like losing your last parent. You feel that you are truly alone now, and that's true in a sense. You feel like you have to grow up now, but you don't, really. I keep waiting on you to find that reason to wake up each day. You got some life left. Do something with it. Put the past behind you and forgive yourself for being who you are. It's their problem, no yours. I hope that your tomorrows make up for your yesterdays. If it all evens out in life, you got a lot to look forward to. Best wishes and remember that your Momma still lives in your heart and there she will never die.
(BTW, I'm on number 5 and she's the best thing that ever happened in my life. I remind myself that I had to get through the other four before I found one worth keeping.)

I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your mother. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I want to say hang in there...but it sounds so damn impersonal. I don't have any advice to give, and I have never been in your shoes, but I do care. I hope that the support of your readers helps ease the pain, if only a little.
You are in my prayers.
