I hardly ever do this anymore, but it makes the best popcorn ever.

We make it like that ALL the time. I hate microwaved popcorn. UGH.

Thanks for the link. :-) I make this almost everyday. It's cheap, filling, and healthy, the perfect food...

Damn, I haven't done that since my grandmother still had her house with a gas stove. You're right, it makes the best popcorn ever.

I remember saucepan popcorn. Damn supermarkets around here probably don't even sell any kind but microwave anymore.

I rediscovered the joy of old fashioned popcorn around Xmas, after years of microwave junk. I didn't realize how much I was missing it until that first handful. I think I could safely sell my microwave and not ever miss it now LOL.

McGehee,
I'm sure the old-fashioned kind is there. Look on the bottom shelf. It's always in a non-obvious place because it's cheaper. Or check the bulk foods section if your market has one, that's what I usually pick up.

I do it that way, but use a covered wok instead of a saucepan. The curved bottom distributes the heat better, and concentrates the unpopped kernels back down into the hot oil. I rarely get any "old maids" doing it that way.
