Jay mentions that his brand-new daughter recognized his voice as soon as he spoke to her. I'll buy that idea. BOTH of my children did the same thing. Of course, I talked to them and sang to them long before they were born, and they must have been listening to me. They damn sure recognized my voice when I spoke to them for the first time in the real world.

Check Jay's pictures, too. Babies always appear sort of beat-up when they're born. Hey! It's a rough trip down that birth-canal. Samantha was a C-section baby, but she still was bruised and dinged by the experience. My first ex-wife was in labor for 36 hours with her.

Quinton came spiraling out of my SECOND ex-wife with two black eyes, scrunched-up ears and bruises all over him. He got hung-up and had to FIGHT his way out. I worried about those ears for years, but they finally straightened out and look pretty good today. I have a handsome son and a beautiful daughter.

Jay, if you're not scared shitless right now, you aren't having the same reaction I did to fatherhood.

Hell, yeah!

Both my kids were premature, both C-section deliveries, and both looked like hell when they came out.

And was scared to death with both.

My first son was born after 2 (yes, TWO) hours of labor. His first cry was a screech that didn't seem like it would ever end. When I actually laid eyes on him for the first time, I knew for sure I had given birth to an alien.

But as soon as I opened up my mouth and said something...he immediately stopped that screech and has been fairly content ever since lol. He was an easy baby...slept through the night every single night of his life so far. No colic...very rare displays of the terrible twos. He lulled me into a sense of complacency, and was a large part of the reason why I decided to have a second child. I thought to myself "Hey...this parenting shit is easy...what's the big deal?".

Then my second one came along...and he made up for every single thing that the first one didn't do. 10 hours of labor (still short but I had about 4 hours of hard labor), colic from day ONE until ...well...I don't think he's ever STOPPED bitching in one form or another lol. He's my wild child. I love him more than life...but there are days I could happily throttle him.

I never really wanted to have children, to be completely honest. I never thought of myself as the mothering type. I'm definitely not your typical mother, but damn there's nothing in this world that I would rather be. The sun in my world rises and sets square in the cracks of their asses...fortunately they don't know that lol.
