i can't decide

I'm listening to a Lyle Lovett CD on my stereo right now. He may be as ugly as a mud fence with a wild hedge growing on top, but his music is interesting. I just don't know whether I like it or not.

When I hear one of his GOOD songs, I really, really like it. (Take "Pony On my Boat" for example.) But he's got some other shit in there that makes me wonder how in the hell THIS GUY ever became famous. Strange...

Do YOU have the same reaction to Lyle's music?

Comments

Yea, I like "Pony on a Boat", and think Lyle is wierd. I guess that's why I like him.

Yep...same reaction.

When he's good...he's good but when he's bad....he stinks.

I can't decide either. What I am impressed with is the entire diverse image he has created for himself. Brilliant, really. I've seen him twice in shops around town here in Houston. Needless to say, he is as confusing to look at as his music can be to listen to.

He puts on a helluva concert when he's touring with his "Big Band," that's for sure.

I bought the tickets, so I guess I like him well enough.

I think the tune you're writing about is called "If I Had a Boat."

It's a good'n, as is "God Will." Check it out if you haven't, yet.

Two words.....Julia Roberts.

He got some of that when she was one hot piece'o ass and the publicity did the rest.

About LL and Julia....

Know somebody from Texas I asked about this: "How did this talented but UGLY mother fucker snag Julia?" The person I asked once roomed with LL and she said "Simple. When Lyle walks, he leaves three tracks."

Lovett's album 'The Road To Ensenada' is one of my all-time favorites. I listen to it constantly.

'Pontiac' is OK, & 'Joshua Judges Ruth' is pretty good. The rest of his stuff I'm absolutely lukewarm about.

I'll agree with El Cap. I like him. And he was big in TX way before the Julia fiasco.

Lyle and his "Big Band"! That's a combo that can steal the show and make you proud to be a Southern.

Ambivalent about Lyle? Never!

We've seen him with the "Big Band", and it really was right up there with the best concerts ever. This from people who went to absolutely every show that came to MInneapolis from back in the '70s to the present.

I argee with you, he's got one or two songs that can make you stop what you're doing, sitdown and cry, and others that make you stop what you're doing, walk over and smash the shit outta the stereo.

I like "She's already made up her mind"
