walkin' "the walk"
We have a real crisis in Savannah's public schools. Some students, through no fault of their own, somehow neglected to make the credits or the grades to graduate with their class this year. Great weeping and gnashing of teeth greet this information, and the majority of the opinions I hear say, "Let 'em graduate ANYWAY. They DESERVE to take their walk."
I don't know where this "taking the walk" crap came from (actually, I DO, but I would be racist to mention it), because nobody ever said it when I was in public school. Of course, that was long ago, in the Dark Ages, when schools taught SUBJECTS instead of IDEOLOGY. We've evolved far beyond those benighted times today.
Most "students" who actually bother to go to class and get good grades don't learn diddly-squat anyway, so why the hell should we "discriminate" against those who don't make even THAT modicum of effort? We're all into "equality" today, and penalizing young men and wimmen for being scholarly slackwads is "unfair."
By Gawd, they have a RIGHT to take "The Walk," even if they can't spell their own names. Everybody knows that a high school diploma is pretty much worthless today, so why be so got-dam picky about who gets one? Just hand 'em out like alms for the poor.
I've listened to the Will of the People, and that's what THEY say, so it must be right.
(I know how to fix this problem. We simply need more government.)
Every state needs to tell the Feds to take the education funding and stick it up their ass. The states were doing pretty damn good without federal money. Once the Feds start giving states money then they start dictating how to spend it. I want to see high school grads that know how to read and write and do basic math without a damn calculator. I could really care less about their self esteem.
When I was in high school, many years ago, some people that were still in my classes were 20 years old and still could not take that walk. Over the years the system in the South have lowered there standards for people in schools. They pass almost everyone, even if you can't write and spell your name. I went to public schools, but I got a good education back then. I could tell you more about our schools and some of the teachers, but ya'll would call me a racist, Cat
That is yet another example of why we have decided to homeschool our 4 year old. I figure I can't fuck them up any worse than the public schools are fucking them up. And the bonus is that I will at LEAST be able to make sure she can read, write and do math and make sure what she is learning for morals are what WE want her to learn.
Kids that don't qualify to take "The Walk" when they finish high scholol are odds on favorites to take "The Walk" (as in perp walk) when they're older.
When will the fucking bleeding hearts ever learn you're only guaranteed an opportunity, not an outcome.
They should be allowed to walk to the stage like the kids that earned it, but should be handed a hair net and a nametag instead of a diploma, and everyone gets to point and laugh....
