Gut Rumbles

add me to the list

I've achieved another badge of honor for my blog: I have been banned by Google. Several bloggers warned me that I risked banishment if I ran those link-ads on my page, and apparently they were correct. I actually feel honored. The Google bastards will deal with the communist Chinese, but they won't deal with ME. I must present a real threat to their empire.

Fuck 'em. I don't think many (if ANY) of the hits I got from Google searches were people who actually gave a damn about reading my site anyway. Those search hits may have looked good on my site meter, but they didn't say anything about my actual readership. Plus, Google never paid me a fucking dime. My link ads DO. (Or at least they DID. They may stop paying me because of the Google ban.)

As painful as it may be, I'll try my best to endeavor to persevere. I may suffer a drop in visitor stats, but the ones from Google were trash anyway. I believe that I can live without them. I still think that it was a shitty thing to do, and Google can kiss my Cracker ass for being so petulant.

As I said before--- fuck 'em.

(UPDATE: At least I'm in good company. Fuck a Google.)

Rob, why not take it to the next level?

Perhaps those of us who don't give a damn about Google can come up with some online de-Google-registration process.

I'd gladly forego any Google hits, all they do is screw up my stats anyway.

When I search for your web site, it still comes up on google. Doesn't look like you've been banned...

Posted by: anon on May 2, 2006 11:23 AM

Nope, you've been banned, Rob. When you google Gutrumbles you get references from other sites.

Fuck Google. The more shit like this that they pull, the less relevence as a search engine they have.

Excuse me. relevance.

Time for my coffee.

Posted by: Daniel Medley on May 2, 2006 12:07 PM

OK - what am I missing?

You have your own domain host (i.e. you're not on Blogger which is owned by Google) - so WTF do they care if you advertise on your own blog on your own host site?

Why does Google care who finds a blog or site via their search engine if that site or blog has or doesn't have advertising. I don't get it, what am I missing here??

Posted by: David Drake on May 2, 2006 07:20 PM

Well screw them, then :P

Posted by: Lisa on May 2, 2006 10:28 PM

Like Daniel, I am confused. Seems to me that there are a gazillion sites that have advertising in the sidebars and they are not banned.

What's going on?

Posted by: Jim - PRS on May 2, 2006 11:17 PM

For the folks that don't get this...

Google doesn't give a shit if you have advertising on your site. The reason the "advertising" on this site is an issue is that it's not advertising - it's sole purpose is to artificially manipulate the PageRank of a spammer.

It's unfortunate - or dare I say hypocritical - that people who bitch so mightily about comment spam, and spam in general, are upset with Google for actually trying to do something about it.

Posted by: Light & Dark on May 3, 2006 03:15 PM

OK OK - so it's the SPAMMING that comes via the advertising, Light & Dark. Got it & thanks for the explanation.

Posted by: David Drake on May 3, 2006 04:22 PM

Google ain't doing much to keep spammers from hitting ME.

Posted by: Acidman on May 3, 2006 07:54 PM

Light & Dark,

So what? On my site the links take you to legitimate articles. It's not spam because no one has to click on them. Instead of banning sites Google should rework their page rank system.

Again, fuck Google.

I actually did find your site through google while researching tiger ridge. It took me 3 days to read all of your archives and have been a loyal fan since. But I am sorry you were banned from google. *sigh*
