Gut Rumbles

my kind of fun

I don't remember how or when I found Kim du Toit's blog, but I've been a regular reader for years. I hope to meet the grouchy old bastard and his darlin' wife some day. If I can time it just right, maybe he'll allow me to join in on something like this. (I need to be... well... dragged off and shot for not thinking of that golf ball idea myself. I've perforated many a deck of old playing cards, but never a sleeve of golf balls.)

My hands itched and my nostrils flared when I looked at those pictures. I would LOVE to test-fire a few of those weapons that I've never tried before. And I can SAVOR the scent of gunsmoke in the air. It smells like freedom.

Got-dam tease.

I was reading him steady till he had to quit a while ago due to possible conflicts with employement .....I wasn't even trying to look his essays up on google or anything because of some warnings in"Nation of riflemen" that these could help anyone trace his writings down and therefore make his possible future employers nervous about having such a right wing nut on board........Then I clicked on his old blog on my favourites list(wishful thinking) a couple of days ago,and YAHOO!!! he's back.......I haven't read through his back pages yet to see why he started again, but hey, who's complaining.(complete with goblin count!)

Rob, you'd have been welcome there. I can guarantee it.

We'll have a new venue next year....but do make plans to join us, please.

Rob, just to add to my previous standing invite to you, and to give an idea of what manner of man Airboss was....

This, from August 05.

You'd have liked the man, really would have.

I'll see you at the next shoot, amigo.

I talked to Kim about playing a game of golf, only using a .45 cal instead of golf clubs at a meeting in December.

What a hoot! See link at

Geezus. They're not taking many chances out there, putting the muzzle of the rifle right up against the golf ball. I say give the golf ball a fighting chance and head start, preferably at 500 meters or so.

The golf ball, in a fierce, lifelike pose. Look at the tiny entrance hole:

If'n he can go prone, our esteemed and vociferous Kim du Toit should try that next year at the gathering. Hell, I'll even volunteer to show the naturalized one how to make the shot. I've got the time these days, having followed Acidman's footsteps into retirement recently...

Gewehr: Going prone is not a problem. Getting my fat ass back upright is.

Prone is for kids. I shoot in gentlemanly fashion: standing or off the bench.

Anyway, it's not a marksmanship thing -- we shoot bowling pins at 50 yards with handguns, unsupported, if we want to do that.

USCitizen: you're on the invitee list for next year. We had to limit the numbers this year, but next year you're in. Bring the '19.

And Acid: we hold the STFDMS every year over the weekend before the SuperBowl. Make travel plans now. The venue for 2007 hasn't been tied down yet, but it WILL take place, good Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

You were invited to Kim's year before last. You went to Costa Rica instead. You missed Airboss, Kim and Jim from SOTW. You could have caught a ride with me. A good time was had by all. BTW, Kim in person is exactly like Kim on his blog.
