piss poor decision

I totally disagree with the Supreme Court's decision that government can steal your property for some kind of nebulous "appreciable benefits to the community." If these "benefits" work elsewhere the way they do around Savannah, a select few will reap most of the money and the "community" can just kiss their asses.

I could MAYBE understand the logic if we were talking about building a dam to control flooding or constructing a new highway to relieve traffic congestion. Such projects DO benefit a lot of people. But a got-dam office complex? Such crap doesn't justify taking ANYBODY'S property.

And if you think local governments and crony politics won't abuse the hell out of this "right," I've got a bridge in Brooklyn I want to sell you.

As a result, cities now have wide power to bulldoze residences for projects such as shopping malls and hotel complexes in order to generate tax revenue.

That's right. Tax revenue for government is more important than an individual's property rights. After all, government DESERVES the money more than YOU do, and government ALWAYS spends it wisely. Pigs fly, too.

I call bullshit on the Supreme Court.

And, you made the correct call.

They can have my property the same time they can have my gun. Motherfuckers

Posted by: gravdigr on June 23, 2005 04:59 PM

Absolutely disgusting. I have no idea how these 5 judges can look at the freaking Constitution and come up with this ruling.

The Fifth reads, "...nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

NO WHERE does it say the government can take private property for PRIVATE USE.

Posted by: rightisright on June 23, 2005 05:06 PM

Well said Ruth,

I was flabbergasted when I heard that ruling. These people obviously never learned reading for comprehension.

Dead on, acidman... I feel like the majority today pissed all over the Constitution, then shat on the Declaration of Independence for good measure...

Ah, the Clinton and Carter appointees. The gift that keeps on giving. Wait, did I say giving? I meant fucking up the nation.

Now if only the asswits in the senate had the balls to tell the Demobrats where to stuff their filibusters, we might actually get a few more sane judges in the queue.

Posted by: Mr. Lion on June 23, 2005 08:30 PM

Don't forget that Souter was a Bush 41 appointee, Mr. Lion.

An attempt at finding a "middle ground" by the idiot Republicans.

When Bush 43 gets the chance, he had BETTER bring up some strict Constructionists to battle the nitwittery of the activist left assholes (redundancy alert) on the court.

What does everyone think all the gun control laws were about? The liberals want an unarmed America so they can do more of this type of shit. I still think they've got a surprise coming and soon. The people are tired of being ripped off and when they rise up a lot of people are going to die. That's my word.
Of course they won't take a home from a liberal. Wanna bet, the suit was brought by people in the Northeast and i'll bet one and all are, no were liberals. Anyone got sense enough to vote for the right people now and get some common sense in the court system. The next few months are going to be interesting when Judges that would never do this are nominated and the liberals start their filibusters again.

Posted by: scrapiron on June 23, 2005 10:32 PM

The supreme court ruled that if you are fairly compensated by the government that the local government could forcibly take your property. What the fuck is fairly compensated? The property we own has been in our family for over 80 years! What mathematic computation do they have to figure that worth amount?

Posted by: gravdigr on June 23, 2005 10:37 PM

Fucking bench penguins need to be shot. Dragging them off first gives them an extra 20 seconds of life they don't deserve.

I've been bitching about this bullshit for years. In Rockford, IL where I was spawned, they eminent domained the small grocery store of a local mexican business owner who had been open for decades and replaced it with... a chain grocery.

The entire area had plenty of places they could have bought for a steal within six blocks of that location, but they wanted the competition gone and paid off the appropriate people.

What a way to reward a successful man with roots in the community, eh?
I hope the crackheads down in that part of town rob that IGA store blind.

I hope those folks in Conn. start shooting at the bulldozers.

Well, you need to look on the bright side here. This almost the same majority (minus O'Connor, who wrote a SCATHING dissent) that will allow you to get fucked in the ass.

All Kelo did was allow the government to join in on the fun.

Anyways, I wrote about the dopeyness at excruciating length at my stupid blog.

Mr. LIon

Actually, Stevens was appointed by Ford, Kennedy was appointed by Reagan and Souter was appointed by Bush. Three of the five were appointed by Republicans. Christ, I'm a Canadian and I know that.

Knowing something about your Supreme Court might prove helpful in bitch-slapping them.

Posted by: skippystalin on June 23, 2005 11:42 PM

I just can't believe that ANYONE can be that frigging stupid/blind/ignorant to what the Constitution & Bill of Rights has written in them. IN PLAIN BLACK & WHITE ENGLISH!! It's not like it is vague or cryptic or suggested, its as plain as the sun on a clear day.

All those years of schooling they have, and the Ginger Bread man is smarter than those idiots on the bench.

But not for long Rob, not for long...

To clarify: Ginsburg and Breyer have routinely provided the margin for rulings of the utterly stupid sort, including this idiocy. Stevens, Kennedy and Souter don't get a free pass, either, for ruling such in obvious conflict with the Constitution, regardless of who appointed them.

The point is, the two Carter/Clinton nitwits have been screwing up the works for years. Ginsburg, specifically, is the complete dolt who thinks we should consider foreign law in judicial findings, in complete, flagrant violation of the Constitution. Even the worst of the idiot Bush I appointees aren't willing to wipe their ass with the Constitution to that degree.

Regardless, the solution is to fire the lot of them, and federally elect the bastards for four years with term limits. Problem solved.

Oh, and for the dipshit canuck: Go screw a sled dog. I knew more about the US system of justice in the fifth grade than you're ever likely to pull out of google, you little pissant.

I will not be surprised if this ruling bursts the real estate bubble.

Not to mention the decision is evil, and wrong.
