January 09, 2004my left footMy goddam dog tried to kill me today. I was surfing the web and she started whining to go outside, so I got up from the computer to let her out. She started doing that "run around in a circle of excitement" dance in the hallway and I almost stepped on her head. But I didn't. I defied gravity and fell right on my ass with my left foot underneath my scrawny butt-cheeks. I don't know what I did, but it hurt like hell. I had to crawl to the door to let the dog out. I put an icepack on my foot, but it's still swollen to twice normal size. That sumbitch hurts. I don't know whether I broke a bone or sprained something by dropping 160 pounds of dumbfuck Cracker ass on a foot curled the wrong way, but I should know better tomorrow. I'm gimping around like a Grouchy Old Cripple right now and watching my injury turn black and blue. I even retrieved my shepherd's crook from the garage to help me walk. I know one thing for sure. Even if I have to go see a doctor tomorrow, I ain't having a cast put on my foot. I'm going to Jamaica on Monday, and I can't swim wearing a cast. Give me some pills and rub some dirt on it. I'll be fine. Sometimes, you just have to suck up a little pain. Comments
You sprained your ankle, dumbass. Good news: it'll heal, eventually. Bad news: you'll have a weak anke for the rest of your life. Next time, kick the damn dog out of the way, gently. Posted by: Kim du Toit on January 9, 2004 01:04 AMYou need to learn how to dance with your dog. Shuffle your feet, don't pick your toes up off the floor, that way you won't step on her toes, or head, or tail, etc. Why was your foot high enough to land on her head, anyway? Remember, shuffle your feet, just like you have to do now. Posted by: Ms Anna on January 9, 2004 01:10 AMI vote for steppin' on the dog next time. She might learn to get out the way next time. Posted by: SwampWoman on January 9, 2004 01:18 AMThink man Think! Sitting at a bar with your leg proped up on a chair with the cast on!!!!! Good lookin babes walking buy! Oh - you poor thing. What happened? Getting the picture yet? If your going to the island with a lady friend then ----- never mind. Posted by: Captain Poopdeck on January 9, 2004 03:38 AMRob, I still have my Plastic, Nylon, Aluminum & Velcro "walking cast" from my '98 involuntary donation of my Gold Wing to the ongoing study of medical science. With your leaving Monday, it'd cost more for me to Fed-Ex it to you, than it would for you to buy one from your local medicos. It does work like a champ though. Goes on and off with just a few 2" Velcro straps. Use it as needed, remove it for swimming, screwing, etc. (although mine never impeded the later activity) Give one a test-drive and see what'cha think, sir. Jim Cast smast. Trust me, I'm not a doctor, but I played one once in a school play. Take Rum in liberal doses for pain. This prescription will work better if applied in the tropics. Jamica will do, but you may have to extend your stay to allow for proper "healing". Where do I send my bill? Posted by: Rumbear on January 9, 2004 02:03 PMI broke my foot last may. I was working in the yard and tripped over some loose paving blocks, and for a brief moment, I saw the bottom of my foot, with my leg straight. The hospital X-rayed it, said it was fine, gave me an aircast. Next day, they called, said it was broken, and I needed it casted. Hell, by then I'd walked on it for a day. I just kept wearing the aircast for a while and it's been OK. But I'd still get it x-rayed. Hope you feel better soon. Posted by: mark on January 9, 2004 08:20 PMI broke a bone in my right foot about a year ago. Because of the disc problem that caused the foot drop, my foot is numb all the time and sometimes when I step or put weight on it - and I haven't been careful how I plant it - my entire foot will fold in on me and I'll end up falling. That's what happened one morning when I got out of bed....my foot bent all the way over on the outside to the ankle. It swelled up like crazy and was black and blue. They didn't cast it, although there was a clear break; instead they gave me one of those goofy support shoes. Well, I couldn't wear it with my brace, so I forced my foot into my hiking boots and wore those - they gave me the support I needed. Now - because of the nerve damage I have, I know I didn't feel the pain like I should have, so I bore weight on it even though they wanted me on crutches. And if I'd been able to feel how much it hurt, I probably would have stayed off of it. But it healed it faster than the doctors said it would; in fact, they were amazed at how quickly it healed up. So if you can keep it supported and take something like motrin for the swelling and pain, I think you'll be ok. Posted by: Trish on January 10, 2004 12:53 AMWatch your ass in Jamaica, and take care of the foot. I'm headed to the Caribbean soon. Cool Runnings! Posted by: Sam on January 10, 2004 01:06 PMHi...I´m just surfed in and want to say hello!
