for jack and kim

The same people who have managed to create a VERY LUCRATIVE cottage industry out of global warming today are the same asswipes who were warning about the New Ice Age in the 1970s. They have no more of a clue about what the climate will be like in 20 years than my goddam dog does. My dog doesn't care because it isn't looking for any money from the scare. The "scientists" are.

Let's see... we were all going to starve, run out of fossil fuel and be packed like sardines in a can due to overpopulation before the year 2000. I heard that gloom and doom bullshit when I was in college in 1971. Not one bit of it came true. Nothing has changed since then except the topic of gloom and doom. Follow the fucking money. Environmentalism is a rich business today.

As far as glaciers go, Kim, they have grown and retreated since the dawn of time. That's what glaciers do. They operate on a geological clock quite different from ours, and if I were you, I wouldn't worry about it. The one you're concerned about will still be around when you are long gone to dust. Get you mind off the fucking glacier and think about something more constructve, like basket-weaving, or gazing at your own navel.

My aching ass.

Earth abides. This rock is FOUR BILLION YEARS OLD and I believe that anybody who wants to "save the planet" should be dragged off and shot for sheer stupidity and hubris. We couldn't destroy this planet if we tried. We damn sure won't do it by living the way we do today. The air is cleaner, the water is more pure and we all live a lot longer now than when I was born.

Where, exactly, is the fucking "crisis?" It's in research labs that want more money and in classrooms taught by politically-correct teachers who can't read and write. THAT'S where it is.

I'll admit that whoever invented the idea of CO2 being a "greeehouse gas" was one clever sumbitch. He knew good and well when he spouted that shit that very few people understand the process of photosynthesis and even fewer understand that WE ARE CARBON-BASED LIFE FORMS. CO2 is essential to life and all "pristine forests" depend on it to survive.

Bejus! Some people are easily brainwashed.

I was pretty damned cold in Newark Friday, for what it's worth. I still fear that next ice age.
As a species we would handle it worse than 6 inches of sea rise.

Congratulations Rob; more truth about the environment like this should be told.

While schools are forcing "green" books down the throats of kids, they should make some books which tell the other side of the story compulsory reading.

The Skeptical Environmentalist by Prof. Bjorn Lomborg is my fav.

Keep spreading the Good Word.

i think there's a different between destroying the planet and merely suffocating ourselves. i might believe it if it wasnt' the same personality telling the story over and over again. even if we all do burn who give a shit. no on here is going to alive in 100 years so fuck it.

Well said.

For serious. The hippies in my classes always complain about global warming. Then I point out what they predicted in the 70's about the impending Ice Age, the hippies just keeping on blabbering on. No surprise of course.

Hell, the weatherman can't even predict 2 fucking days ahead of time, so how they fuck do they want me to believe the 50-year forecast when the 2-day forecast ain't worth shit? Lousy bastards, the lot of them.

Uh huh. I remember from back in the 70s that there would not be enough work for everybody, that we would be working 20 hour weeks, and that 6 or 7% unemployment was actually full employment and that it could never go lower.

I have occasionally remembered the predictions from the 70s when I was out sweatin' my ass off breakin' up slabs with a jackhammer during 95 degree summer days on a week averaging 80 hours of work. I would have been glad to have some young pup take over, but there weren't any to hire.

Damn you're touchy. Who said I was "worried" about anything? I was just stating a fact. Go nurse a beer or something and chill out!

Micheal Crichton gave a very good speech on the Environmentalist movement back in Sep03. I highly recommend it.

I remember the 1st Earth Day well.
"WE'RE ALL GONNA DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!"

That part of the message has been very consistant. The rest of it - the facts, reasons for it, and supporting scientific theories - keep changing as needed. It's ALL about power.

Global warming is happening but the cause is more a recovery from the previous "Little Ice Age" than from human production of CO2.

The key data that the enviros will cite is the famous Mann "Hockey Stick" from his 1998 Nature paper which shows global temperatures warming sharply after around 1900.

Recently some Canadians have been given access to the same data and they show quite the different picture.
