December 02, 2003rightI just wanted to keep this link for inspiration. I'm gonna do it. Hell... I write better than he does. Comments
No kiddin'. Your style is much different, but that is as it should be. His writing accent is midwestern, your's is thoroughly Southern. You remind me of Faulkner. But, I have to admit that is one hell of a workshop in one blog posting. I'm going to do some serious cogitatin' on that as well. I certainly know of many things I wish I had read in various magazines. Perhaps I'm the one who needs to write them. Many thanks for that link Acidman. This is why I faithfully stop at your Blog everyday. Posted by: Commander Will on December 3, 2003 12:45 AMGod, writers talking about how to be writers (professional or otherwise) bore the shit out of me. I can't believe how long-winded that dude was. Pretentious ass. You can say so much more by saying less. Posted by: Raspil on December 3, 2003 02:44 AMI have met John and he is a really nice guy who is in my opinion good at what he does. But of course you have to find his style interesting. A-man, yours is a more personalized style and is appealing to the masses in general, whereas his is "professional" style journalism. I like to read yours more, and clearly so do lots of other people. But there is a need and a place for professional journalists, please do what YOU like best, you will find the right place and audience and rise above. Now that is some sincere and genuine advice from someone who lives with one type of writer, but likes to read another type. Posted by: Dawn on December 3, 2003 09:04 AM"His writing accent is midwestern" As someone born and bred in California, I hardly know what to make of that comment. Posted by: John Scalzi on December 3, 2003 11:00 AMMB is very grateful for that lead; she has need of a lot of that information...not for herself, but for a friend. From there, she also found the following: Posted by: MommaBear on December 3, 2003 11:20 AMAs someone who was born and reared in Florida, spent some childhood in Michigan and West Virginia, and then worked in California for almost three years (retail sales, sportfishing deckhand, etc.) I quite expect such an ignorant response. You impotent moron. Perhaps your should learn about some life before you propound your ignorance on the rest of us. Posted by: Commander Will on December 4, 2003 02:01 PMTop Notch Site!
