November 05, 2003go piss up a ropeHoward Dean and the rest of the dwarves demonstrated clearly in their last debate why they won't win the south in the next election. Former Vermont governor Howard Dean was harshly rebuked by several of his Democratic rivals here Tuesday night for offending whites and blacks alike by recently saying he wanted "to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks." Good luck, you yankee shitass. We Southern Good Ole Boys don't ride around with Confederate flags IN our pickup trucks. We have Confederate flag bumper stickers and front-end license plates ON our trucks. You'll see that stuff right next to the Bush/Cheney stickers. In one of the most personal and heated attacks of the campaign, Sen. John Edwards (N.C.) and Al Sharpton called Dean's comments offensive and demanded an apology from the front-runner in the race for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination. I call that "poor whites" remark pretty goddam bigoted. I drive a pickup truck with a Confederate flag license plate on the front. I am not poor. I am not ignorant. I am not a member of the KKK. I am a typical Son of the South and I wouldn't vote Democrat for President if someone threatened me with red-hot tongs to my scrotum. The fiery exchanges, which took place in the opening minutes of a candidate forum aimed at young voters and hosted by CNN and Rock the Vote, set the tone for the liveliest and most unconventional debate of the campaign. They were triggered by a pointed question from a young African American in the audience who said he was "extremely offended" by Dean's recent remark to an Iowa reporter that "I still want to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks. We can't beat George Bush unless we appeal to a broad cross-section of Democrats." I happen to be proud of my Southern heritage and I resent any yankee prick who assumes that I am a gap-toothed, slack-jawed, mouth-breathing idiot who needs to be led by ANYBODY in government, let alone some leftist fuck from Vermont. I can make my own way, thank you very much. And I refuse to apologize to ANYONE for being white, being Southern and sporting that Confederate flag on my truck. If you don't like it, bite my Cracker ass. In his defense, Dean invoked the words of Martin Luther King Jr., who he said talked of bringing together the children of slave owners and the children of slaves. Dean said that Republicans had used racial issues to appeal to working-class southerners for three decades and that it was time for Democrats to put a stop to it. Yeah, those Republicans sure know how to play the race card. They were the ones who ran those "Another black church will burn" and "Another black man will be dragged to death behind a pickup truck" ads during the last election, weren't they? As for Al Sharpton, he's a good performer, but he is a characature, a buffoon. If he weren't black, his greasy-haired, loud-mouthed ass would be in jail, or at least laughed off the stage for the crooked fool that he is. "America's swastica," indeed. Al, you have BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS from the anti-semetic shit you've stirred in the past. You are a fine one to talk about swasticas. If the Democrats ever intend to retake the South, they'd better start talking about God, Guns and Guts instead of "BRING THE TROOPS HOME!" and "GET UN PERMISSION!" And they should kick Al Sharpton off the stage instead of kissing his ass. We aren't called "Rebels" down South for nothing. What works at Ben & Jerry's doesn't work here.

I was hoping you'd blog on that bullshit. Posted by: Angie on November 5, 2003 11:58 AMThanks Acidman! I had been wanting to rant on that and you do it so well! Posted by: Anastasia on November 5, 2003 12:14 PMBush was here in Birmingham for an hour on Monday in order to raise 1.75 million dollars. Fund raising is the only reason why the Repubs have to come here during the presidential campaign, since Alabamians will vote for him no matter what he says or does. I'm not suggesting they vote Democrat, but could we at least have some discourse? Maybe somebody could have a thought? Blind acceptance is dangerous. Posted by: sugarmama on November 5, 2003 12:46 PMWhat Democrats have visited Alabama, Sugarmama? I tried to watch a Democratic Presidential candidate debate a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't stomach it; I got sick. Dean isn't a Yankee. He's a Demobrat. There's a difference. A big difference. Those people you saw running into burning buildings and putting up American flags by the millions, THOSE are Yankees. The nine numbnuts you see trying to give our country away and pander to whatever lunatic will give them a vote, well, those are traitors. Posted by: Mr. Lion on November 5, 2003 01:16 PMMr. Lion, you got me there. There's a BIG difference between those firemen and yankee politicians. I apologize for painting with too broad a brush. And YOU KNOW that I seldom apologize for anything. Posted by: Acidman on November 5, 2003 01:33 PMThose people you saw running into burning buildings and putting up American flags by the millions, THOSE are Yankees. Hear! Hear! Being a Yankee by accident of birth is no sin. Acting like an idiot carpetbagger is. When you see graffiti that says: "Yankee Go Home" in Germany or France, they don't mean people from Illinois or Maine. My favorite story: When I first arrived in the U.S., I went to see a guy about a job in Texas. I told him I knew I was going to have a problem getting a job, depsite my quite-impressive resume -- because I was a foreigner. He leaned back in his chair, put his cowboy boots up on the desk, and said: "Look on the bright side, boy. You coulda been a Yankee." Posted by: Kim du Toit on November 5, 2003 03:01 PMAs a former rebel, a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Master's degree from SOUTHERN Illinois University @ Carbondale, a former Californian and a current resident of Illinois, I can confidently state two things: The Democrats are losing everywhere (See the govenors of California, Kentucky and Mississippi for examples) and secondly, that I echo Acidman's commentary and applaud his cracker ass for making it easy for the rest of us to agree with him. Posted by: FloridaBill@juggernuts.com on November 5, 2003 03:33 PMWhat I thought was funny (in a sad sort of way) was how Dean pretty much insulted the HAIL out of all of Florida Democrats that weren't L3s. You know.....the ones that put Jeb into office, and think that maybe a man that has been accused of abusing his wife, and some of her doctors have said that her injury was due to attempted strangulation, shouldn't be making the decision about whether she should live or die. Posted by: SwampWoman on November 6, 2003 11:50 AMOh gawd, and I was just starting to warm up to Howard the Duck. Dang, now I got to start all over. Geezzzzzzzzzzz louize! Posted by: wandalicious on November 6, 2003 02:01 PMDean is what we call around ehre a Damyankee. A Yankee is fine, that's jsut someone from up north. A Damyankee is someone who is convinced he superior to everyone down here, just because he came from up north. There is a difference. Posted by: Tony Hooker on November 7, 2003 02:28 PMMy definition of an idiot: A southerner or a yankee that keeps on referring to each other as anything BUT an American. Displaying the confederate on your car is fine just as long as you know you're displaying the banner of losing team. It's not displayed out of pride, it's displayed out of rebellion and the refusal to accept progress. I don't know a single person from the south that displays that divisive symbol that doesn't hold non-southerners in some sort of contempt. Get over it already! Tim (Valdosta, GA) I do not like Dean for many of the reasons posted. I agree, we need a pejorative for the likes of Dean that doesn't simply (1) simultaneously diss everyone who happens to have been born in the wrong part of the country or (2) apply to all Americans in other parts of the world. I'm not sure what the right word for that is, but "Yankee" definitely ain't it. "Fuckwit" might be an acceptable substitute, assuming Misha hasn't trademarked it yet. Posted by: Xrlq on November 9, 2003 12:40 AMGovernor Doc -- given his proclivities WRT freedom of speech, etc., he fits right in with Papa Doc and Baby Doc. Posted by: McGehee on November 9, 2003 02:03 PMThanks, Tim the Soldier, for your description of the sentiments behind many of those who flaunt the image of the confederate flag. There is nothing wrong with honoring the dead or admiring their valor in combat. No army in WWII sacrficed more (or accomplished more with less resources) than the German army. But their monuments don't fly Nazi flags nor are those flags waived at memorial ceremonies. I agree, the confederate flag is a symbol of rebellion and division (continuing to this day). It's a way of saying "Up yours, Yankee!" (Parentheticaly, I would add that it is also a symbol of historical treason - whatever the reasons for the treason. I won't go into the slavery and race issues because they are too obvious.). I know there are those who would argue that flying the flag is just a celebration of Southern history and culture. Perhaps they are right. Maybe we Northerners just aren't proud enough to celebrate our history and could learn a thing or two from the defenders of the confederate flag. We could start with the display of flags throughout our state capitols memorializing Sherman's march through Georgia Posted by: A Yankee Observer on November 11, 2003 06:00 PMUsed Trucks; check out all used trucks here! They have all the trucks, including Certified Cadillac Trucks, Certified Chevrolet Trucks, Certified Dodge Trucks, Certified Ford Trucks, Certified GMC Trucks, Certified Hummer Trucks, Certified Isuzu Trucks, Certified Jeep Trucks, Certified Land Rover Trucks, Certified Lincoln Trucks, Certified Mazda Trucks, Certified Nissan Trucks, Certified Toyota Trucks. They have some of the most comprehensive info available. I do not like Dean for many of the reasons posted. Posted by: Trucks on December 4, 2003 02:36 PM Hey Tim the Soldier, I sport the Confederate flag. It is forever a part of my flesh (a tattoo in case your IQ is too low to realize the statement), forever my heritage. Not a hate symbol or whatever you want to call it. The 'losing team'? Whatever dude. I display it out of pride. I'm proud to be a Southerner (unlike yourself) and I'm damn proud to be American. On of my best friends is a Yankee from Pennsylvania..part of the bloodline of William Penn as a matter of fact. So take your opinion and shove it up your ass. You calling it a divisive symbol puts you on the same level as that dumb ass Dean. Guess you learned a new word during the Iowa fund raiser. You don't know what's coming out your ass to be words or farts. Americans are Americans ( I am also part Native American). It is stupid little terds like you who try to divide us. Go to hell.
