November 03, 2003yeah, my visitors vanishedI want to thank you people who read me. Thanks for coming back around when I arrived back home. I appreciate that. I needed a week off. I enjoyed the trip to the mountains and I CERTAINLY enjoyed the blog-meet. One thing I discussed with fellow bloggers there was traffic (and EVERYBODY pays attention to it). I stopped thinking about TRYING to generate traffic about eight months ago. Once I did that, I kept growing visitors every day. Some people told me that if I left this blog alone for a week, I would lose my readership. I didn't think so. I believe that I've done what Glenn Reynolds suggested recently. You build it, and they will come. Instalanches are great, but they only last for a day or so. Blogdom is the ultimate short-attention-span theater. If it's a day old, it's stale. I was asked about my approach to blogging by a lot of people this weekend. I told everyone who asked, "just write." Put it out there, stuff those notes in the bottles and toss them into the ocean until your arm wears out. If you're any good at it, people will find you. If you're NOT any good, then hang onto that day job. Anyway, first day back at 11:00 PM: Total 447,009 More than 2,000 visitors today. That's a nice welcome home present. Comments
Interesting. You have more visitors in an hour than I do in a day but people spend the same amount of time at both of our sites. Those kinds of statistics are fascinating to me. I wish I could spend time being fascinated by something more substantial. Posted by: Raspil on November 4, 2003 03:42 AMWell I checked back everyday just in case you happened to get a post to us somehow. Damn you Rob, this is an addiction... Posted by: Lisa on November 4, 2003 02:54 PMOf course readers will return. That's why I never understood the '"guest bloggers" while I'm away' thing. Posted by: Jane Finch on November 4, 2003 03:18 PMYou're on my daily read list of blogs. One mouse wheel click in my bookmark, and my daily requirement are loaded. Mozilla Firebird, much better browser than Internet Explorer. Posted by: BigFire on November 4, 2003 05:18 PMI am always glad to see you back. : - ) I didn't bother checking in during your absence. Why even bother with guestbloggers... Posted by: sm@rt@ss on November 5, 2003 01:27 AMPost a comment
