October 23, 2003letter of the dayA is for asshole. Yeah, A is for "attorney," too, but there isn't much difference. A is for arafat. who shoud have been killed years ago, that piece of shit. A is for adams, who makes a living writing crap like that. A is for affleck, as if anyone gives a shit. A is for ann coulter. I adore the woman. I want her to have wanton sex with me. I also believe that most of what she writes is INTENDED to chap people's asses. I like that quality in a woman. She reminds me of ME. A is for aw... christ on a bicycle. I was asked in my comments about whether I would want MY BC ex-wife to make a decision to pull my feeding tube if I were in that situation. Yes. I would. She has the balls to do it and she also knows that it's what I would want her to do. I don't EVER intend to live that way. Why can't the docs just give the woman a shot to put her out instead of starving her to death? They give that blessed, quick death to old dogs. I've watched them do it while holding the dog. But they won't do it for human beings. I see something terribly wrong with that picture. A is for aspirin, which I believe I'm going to take right now. I think I'm coming down with a cold. I haven't caught a cold for more than two years now. I suppose that I am due for one. I hope I'm wrong, but I seem to be showing symptoms. A is for "ARRGGH!" I don't feel good today.

We do it for dogs, because they don't matter half as much as humans. A doctor is in a relationship of trust with his patients. When he says this is for your own good, or watch me put this substance in your kid's arm, you need to trust him. Euthanasia--which you are advocating--has long been condemned under medical ethics b/c the possibility that the doctor is administering some kind of poison corrodes that relationship of trust. People should be cared for whether sick, healthy, crippled, or weak. That's the difference of Christian civilization and Paganism. That's the difference of our society and ancient Rome and Greece where old farts offed themselves and retarded children were exposed on a hillside. It's all to easy to go from the principle "Put me out of my misery"--as you say--to put out of their misery. Before long doctors will conclude no reasonable patient will want to stay alive under certain circumstances. Decisions will be made not based on the welfare of the patient but on the good of the general society. Folks may end up afaid to go to hospitals, as they are in the Netherlands, where involuntary Euthaniasia has become routine. Keeping sick people alive is expensive; what's it worth? And what's it worth if they're not as productive anymore? It's worth our moral sanction to call ourselves civilized I say. It's worth more than the alleged strength in facing death and decreptitude (which often can be a cover for fear and cowardice in the face of helpless human beings that cry out for help and care). Life ain't perfect. Sometimes people get sick. It's a lot more convenient to off them then take care of them. But it's totally immoral. Posted by: roach on October 23, 2003 10:08 AMI belive that the last two years of my life have taught me a LOT about doctors. Don't fucking lecture ME until you've been there, Roach. Posted by: Acidman on October 23, 2003 10:24 AMI was stating a position contrary to yours, but I'll leave you to your sycophantic readership if that will make you feel better. Posted by: roach on October 23, 2003 10:30 AMI don't care what you do, Roach. Just get back to me after you've put YOUR LIFE in a doctor's hands and watched him botch the job. Man, PLEASE. A doctor runs a business. Most of them care a lot more about your insurance card than they do about YOU. That's MY humble opinion ( having BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT), but I could be wrong. Posted by: Acidman on October 23, 2003 10:41 AMYou had a bad experience with doctors, and that proves we should enable doctors to kill patients--potentially against their will. I'm not pie-in-the-sky. It's becuase I fear doctors and think any relationship of trust is easily abused that I'd just as soon keep doctors out of the Euthanasia business. Posted by: roach on October 23, 2003 10:50 AMPosted by Roach: We do it for dogs, because they don't matter half as much as humans. Pfft. I like most dogs a whole hell of a lot more than I like most humans. Posted by: DeAnna on October 23, 2003 11:17 AMA year ago, I actually made such a decision regarding my father. May I have permission to have an opinion on the matter? Posted by: Robin Roberts on October 23, 2003 11:52 AMEverybody is entitled to an opinion on my blog. I just don't have to agree with ANYBODY. After all, it's MY goddam blog. Posted by: Acidman on October 23, 2003 12:38 PMThe BC would keep you alive just to spite you. Don't trust her to do the dirty deed. Posted by: Chablis on October 23, 2003 03:25 PMLiving Wills, folks... that SHOULD be the be-all and end-all of the whole thing, and the state and doctors should respect it. I would not want to hang around if I had a painful, debilitating, incurable disease (did I leave out degenerative) so I wouldn't have a problem taking the burden off everyone else's minds and overdosing or something. AND my whole family already knows that! Posted by: jerseagirl on October 24, 2003 12:38 PMCool article!!!
