October 17, 2003an appealThis post is for anybody who lives in the north Georgia mountains. I'll be headed that way on October 27th. How do the leaves look now? Will I be too early, too late, or right on time to see the colors? I know that a lot can change between now and then depending on the weather, but what's it like NOW? By the way, the drink-and-lie-fest is still on in Dahlonega on November First. Caruso's Restaurant, 3:00 PM. Roscoe and I will be there. Comments
Heard on the radio this morning that the next three weeks would be the best. Leaves are supposed to be 25 - 30% right now, so your timing should be about right. As long as you don't mind sitting in hours of traffic to see them. Posted by: phil on October 17, 2003 08:10 AMI live in Athens and Work in Habersham County. On that long ass ride, I see a lot of leaves. They're starting to turn. I've got a pile of dead stuff in my parking lot, but I don't think it will be too late. Unless we get a huge tornado in or something. Posted by: forvrin on October 17, 2003 09:13 AMDrove to Asheville last weekend and the leaves were pre-peak there so you might hit it about right down in Ga. Posted by: rivlax on October 17, 2003 09:38 AMHalf the leaves in Macon County, North Carolina have blown away already; the remainder have not turned as yet--I expect them all to have turned and dropped within a week and a half. Macon County is on the Georgia Line, 1-1/2 to 2 hours north of Athens. You should reach Dahlonega at the leaves' last gasp. Posted by: Brett on October 17, 2003 10:22 AMI live it - right here, where you'll be the 27th. We live in Habersham County, between Helen, Cleveland, and Clarksville. Not a lot of color yet. Some leaves down and brown. Seems like it could be prime around the 27th Posted by: Ed Poinsett on October 19, 2003 05:29 PMHey there Acidman, some of the ladies and I were talking and we're kind of curious as to who all's going to be meeting up. I know of three and maybe four folks (counting me) that'll be coming up. Can you help us out with a headcount? Posted by: Adam on October 24, 2003 07:33 PMCool article!!!
