July 23, 2003this is sickAs a guitar player who has worked for 23 years in heavy industry, I ALWAYS have been very careful about my fingers. I know too many people who have amputations NOT to take hand safety seriously. If I fuck up and lose a finger on my left hand, I am DONE as a guitar player. Even the little finger counts there. I don't want that to happen to me. That's one reason I find this story so unnerving. What the fuck was THAT all about? People don't break into your house, tie up your roommates and watch TV until you come home just to cut off a couple of YOUR fingers unless they have a DAMN GOOD reason to do it. Especially when you are a talented musician and losing those fingers is worse than death. There is more to this story than meets the tomahawk here.

Damn, that's horrible. I can empathize with the kid though. I severed the tendons in three fingers on my right hand which promptly closed out a whisper of a music career. I do miss jammin' though. You ever write any original music Acidman? Be interested to hear some MP3s. Posted by: Jbouler on July 24, 2003 07:38 AMNot that I'm holding a brief for finger amputation or disability, but there was Django Reinhardt. His left pinky and ring fingers were burned into uselessness in a fire. Didn't stop him, and he went on to develop a great hot jazz style that must be heard to be believed. Take CD and see! You can pretend that Stephan Grappelly wasn't really french. Posted by: Stephen on July 24, 2003 12:47 PMNot just Django Reinhardt, but also Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. If I remember correctly he's missing the fingertips of his middle and ring fingers on his fretting hand. Posted by: J Bowen on July 24, 2003 01:08 PMOuch! I can relate; my fingers are my livelihood, too! But, now, really. Mistaken identity? If this was a case of a band of neer-do-wells out for an afternoon torture session, wouldn't they have settled for the two "flat mates"? Not lain in wait for the "big kill"?? Nope, something else is afoot here (no pun intended). You're right. It doesn't pass the smell test. I'd be interested to know what else is uncovered in this case....
