June 28, 2003bound to happenQuinton and one of his new friends captured a HUGE grasshopper and brought it into the house to show me. I was impressed, proclaimed my impressment and told them to take it back outside. They got as far as the living room when all hell broke loose. Michael dropped the grasshopper. Quinton dived after it, but it leaped off the floor and walls as fast as it could go, sprouted wings out of its ass and took to flight, and finally ended up behind the entertainment center, which weighs about 10,000 pounds WITHOUT the TV, VCR and stereo on board. "GET HIM, DADDY!" Quinton screamed. I didn't get him. I am NOT moving that shit in a bug-hunt. I told the kids to go back outside and play. I also told them to NEVER bring another bug into the Crackerbox unless they put it in a jar first. Bejus. I don't mind the giant grasshopper behind the entertainment center. He'll emerge when he gets ready and I'll shoo him out the door. No big deal. I'm just glad that the little shits didn't bring in a SNAKE and let it get away.

Don't feel too bad when I was a child I lost a small "3'" bull snake in the house, boy did my mom go apeshit..LOL!! There is a legend in my family about the time one of us brought a jar full of grasshoppers into the house to show my Grandmother (who was deathly afraid of such creatures)....and supposedly things turned ugly pretty quickly. This story has been retold so many times.....by so many different members of the family, that no one can remember who actually did it. (It might have been me..........but I'm not admitting to anything! At that time my mother was still very allergic to cats. So, imagine two grown-ups breaking all hell loose like Jack and Quinton did over the grasshopper. I was told to wait outside. My guys are 9 and 11, they bring in the strangest creatures to show me-- I'm no wuss and live in the country so bugs are a part of life, but I firmly believe they belong outside. Outside I'm prepared, I have clothes on and expect them. Inside-- well, without going into detail, let's just say I may not have clothes on and DO NOT expect them. Their newest scheme is to dig a pit to trap a nuisance bear we have visiting nightly. Needless to say I'm discouraging this plan. A bug is one thing, 250 pounds of hungry bear is quite another. Posted by: Al on June 28, 2003 09:43 PMThe backyard of the house we lived in when my oldest was around 9 was "toad and frog city" in the spring.......he and his friends came into the house one day with their pockets full of the little critters, proceeded to pull them out to show me and within seconds there had to have been 20-30 of them hopping all over the place.........Mind you, this was back when shag carpeting was the "in" thing so if anyone is old enough to remember that, then you know how much fun we had trying to get them all.......
