May 22, 2003music to my earsWhen I was in high school I lived in Beaulieu, a hamlet about two 3-woods from Pinpoint, where Thomas grew up. We bought our Boone's Farm wine from Ralph Newton's liquor store in Sandfly. Great names, eh? The man is talking about where I grew up, and he is WRONG! Actually, velociblogger, it was Frank NOGLIN's liquor store at "Newton's Corner" in Sandfly, Georgia. Frank was from Pennsylvania and was fascinated with my fake ID, which was an altered Pennsylvania driver's license. I had to do research on the town of "Sharon" to keep him convinced that I was 22 when I was 16. He thought I was a homeboy. I ate my first pickled pig's foot at his bar and burped that thing for three days. "Beaulieu" is pronounced "bew-lee." I lived at 133 Sullivan Street when I first left my parent's house. That's right on the big curve before you reach Rio Vista and Vernon View. And I knew where Pinpoint was then, and still is now. Frank Noglin died years ago (he appeared to be about 100 years old when I was buying liquor and beer from him in 1968) and Newton's Corner has changed a LOT. But Pinpoint remains Pinpoint. There is a "Save Our Sandfly" movement that's stopped both a Wal-Mart and a Target store from being built where the old Weiss Drive-In theater used to be. Remember THAT, V-man? Ah... nostalgia. Which is it, Big Boy? Ralph Noglin or Frank Noglin? Maybe Frank Noglin ran Ralph Newton's store? Or something? IT WAS Newton's Corner, that's what I know.
