May 22, 2003testing...If the guy on the hot seat really is "a sophomore majoring in political science, and minoring in history, english and criminology" then the University of Denver must be one bullshit school. The master matriculating scholar got THREE QUESTIONS RIGHT on this test. Sweet Bejus! I'll admit that I didn't score 100% (I missed two-- the one about astrology and the one about mythology) but I would go home and drink oven cleaner if I missed 16 out of 19. I could do better than that on a MATH TEST, and I don't do math. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Comments
The test tests trivia...big deal. I couldn't tell you who the first golfer to make over a million bucks was, and I doubt it matters much to my life or career or indicates my intelligence. I've heard of Bull Run, and imagine it's in the south somewhere, but, like being able to do a quadratic function, it's pretty much irrelevant. I got 84 percent right....that's why I can kick your butt around the block at Trivial Pursuit if you take out those sports and civil war questions. Posted by: Jane on May 22, 2003 04:08 PMJane and I should team up, because I got both of those. I missed three (84%). The Puritans, European trains, and movie actresses who marry into royalty are not my strong points. Posted by: Ravenwood on May 22, 2003 04:13 PM95%, and that includes educated guesses such as the million-dollar golfer. Oh, and Jane? The Bull Run question isn't trivia -- it's history. Maybe you've heard of it. And the Greek mythology question falls under what Western Civilization used to call "a classical education." If I hadn't been right guessing Arnold Palmer, though, I'd call the whole thing culturally biased against white people, now that Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer ever. Everybody knows white guys can't duff. <snickering up my sleeve> Posted by: McGehee on May 22, 2003 04:17 PM17 correct. Not back for a hillbilly blonde with a decent rack. i got 63% right- i missed 7 questions. but then again, i'm 17 years old and in high school. and i got all the mythology, astrology and science questions. not bad for someone who has been around for such a comparitively short amount of time. which is why i'd cut the college kid some slack. what's basic cultural knowledge for all of you is history for the rest of us. nixon and khruschev? that's a generation ago, when our parents were young! Posted by: tzippora on May 22, 2003 04:37 PMI gotta crow since I only missed one. Maybe I should pay more attention to my horoscope. Maybe not. Confession: 3 lucky wag's Posted by: Don A. on May 22, 2003 04:42 PMI got 4 wrong. THREE of those I second-guessed myself and changed to the wrong answer from my first choice that would have been correct. Duh! Posted by: Jay Solo on May 22, 2003 05:11 PMI missed the one about golf. Damn. Aced it! Well, I would have aced it if I knew where MLK was buried. And if I knew jack about astrology. OK, OK, I'll resign my Mensa membership now.... Posted by: Russ on May 22, 2003 07:28 PMMissed the astrology question. Guessed correct MLK's place of birth. On Hardball do they dont get multiple choice? If not, that would explain the lower scores, but not only getting 3 out of 19. Posted by: brad on May 22, 2003 07:50 PMBeing a Jawja Cracker, the MLK question was a gimme. Posted by: Acidman on May 22, 2003 08:59 PMMissed one. Would have aced it, but changed the money question. And don't ever play trivia pursuit with me. I will kick your ass. Posted by: Denny Wilson on May 22, 2003 09:42 PMKevin, yes, it's HISTORY....a picayune historical fact. Being able to name the four extant primary sources about the coronation of Charlmeagne is history too, but I'm just betting there are maybe ten Americans who think it matters much. Ravenwood, you're right about teaming up...I have the star/royalty and other stuff down pat! Posted by: Jane on May 22, 2003 10:15 PMI'll take every one of you on by myself! Trivia is my game. I talked myself out of the two questions I missed on the test, and Jane had better understand one simple fact: The game isn't played in YOUR BACK YARD, although I could kick your ass there, too. I like the sports and history questions best. You probably specialize in Lesbian Italian Mezzo-Soprano Opera Singers. Posted by: Acidman on May 22, 2003 11:10 PMHell, I got 16, and I'm just an ol grizzly who lights buildings for a living. Posted by: bear, the (one each) on May 22, 2003 11:26 PMI beat ya by 1 (one)! Ha! I feel much better after a day of puzzling out cgi-bens and perl routes and aardvark sections and ... Thought I was losin my grip. Thanks for the uplift. One (!) = 95% = HA! Posted by: Claire on May 23, 2003 03:27 AMI missed two - the "in God we trust" and the first sign of the Zodiac. It took me 47 seconds to do the test, and I am in the first grade. -tim- Posted by: tim on May 23, 2003 06:59 AMA good buddy and I drove to Tallahassee to take a state insurance test. On the way, we quizzed each other. Compared to him, I didn't know jack shit. I finished the (2 hrs allowed) test in 25-30 minutes. I could tell he and I were going through about the same rate, turning pages same time, etc. He came out 45 minutes later and asked how I finished so quickly. Told him we finished about the same time, but I DIDN'T CHANGE ANY OF MY ANSWERS! Sad bottom line: I passed. He failed. As an aside, some people have a gift for test-taking. I'm one. Give me multiple choice on ANY SUBJECT, I guarantee I'll pass. I used to write the damned things, too, so I know all the rules for stems, choices, etc. Probably have taken about a million of 'em, too. Posted by: Larry on May 23, 2003 08:01 AMMissed two, In God We Trust and the million dollar golfer. Thought it was Nicklaus. Like Larry above, I am very good on multiple choice. Wonder what cognitive skills are required? Hardest multiple choice test I ever took? NYS EMT test. They specialize in answers that are nearly correct. It's a bit*h. Posted by: Chuck on May 23, 2003 08:55 AMTake the PSM (Process Safety Management) auditor's exam. That one damn near kicked my ass. Talk about answers that are NEARLY correct? How about four choices that are ALL correct and you pick the one that is MOST correct? I passed by the skin of my teeth and I never want to take that bitch again. Posted by: Acidman on May 23, 2003 09:03 AMDo the people taking that test have multiple choice? Posted by: Lord Ben on May 23, 2003 09:10 AM*&^*$(^ culturally biased test. I missed the questions whose answers were southern states. :) (for anyone who's humor impaired, my tongue is firmly in my cheek about this, although I did miss both those questions.) Posted by: Steve Sandvik on May 23, 2003 11:25 AM95% correct. not bad for a snowborne redhead with a decent rack. ;o) (you totally cracked me up, leeann!)
